Some days on tour provide amazing storm structure like this beauty near Thedford, NE, on Tour #6 2024. A few of our guests have said they enjoyed seeing this almost as much as seeing a beautiful tornado on tour days earlier.

A tornado that occurred in the outer bands of hurricane Milton cut a clean swath through this solar farm in Lake Placid, Florida. Wild stuff!

Hurricane Milton’s outer bands continue to produce tornadoes across central and southern Florida, some strong, as the right edge of the storm’s main core begins to affect the Tampa Bay area.

Above average fall/winter tornado probabilities to close out an already historic year? Our Meteorologist Trey Greenwood thinks it might be possible.

As we head into our secondary severe weather season, we remain well above average as far as tornado reports go for the year, even after a quiet September. We’ll see if this persists into the fall and winter; as we discussed in our second season tornado forecast (linked in the comments), signs point to perhaps an average to above average fall and winter tornado-wise.

Interesting new information from the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory. There is new evidence to believe that wind speeds are higher in the tornado vortex opposed to at the surface.

Just how strong are the winds in a tornado? 🌪️

A newly published paper by NSSL researchers concludes that radar-based estimates of near-ground wind speeds in tornadoes are frequently higher than estimates derived from damage using the EF scale.
