Iron Arena Powerlifting & Performance

Iron Arena Powerlifting & Performance IA is Hudson County's only training facility equipped to surpass the needs of competitive powerlifte Iron Area Powerlifting & Performance (IA) opened in 2012.

It originally occupied a 3,000 sq. ft. space on the fifth floor of a century-old converted Wonder Bread Factory in Hoboken, New Jersey. A redevelopment plan forced us to relocate in October of 2016. Iron Arena is now located just three miles north of its former location in North Bergen, NJ. We're bigger and better than ever as we now occupy a 5,500 sq. ft space (located directly above New Jersey B

eer Co.) accessible via all major highways and public transportation. IA is Hudson County's only training facility equipped to surpass the needs of competitive powerlifters and performance athletes. Don't let the word "powerlifting" in our name dissuade you. Your personal goals may include diminished body fat, increased muscle mass and definition, enhanced strength, endurance, or an overall aim to maximize general fitness. Regardless of your pursuit -- the squat, bench press, and deadlift are a big part of the fitness equation. Therefore, we cater to anyone from novice to elite, with a sincere commitment to learning proper execution in the barbell lifts. Iron Arena recognizes there is no one-size-fits-all program or methodology. For that reason, we employ a variety of training methods backed by science and evidence-based practice/application from years of personal experience. Your goals matter to us and we'll help implement an optimal training strategy to help you achieve results as efficiently as possible. Iron Arena is an officially recognized USAPL Friendly Gym by USA Powerlifting and is owned and operated by Jason Manenkoff.

New Addition to ! 🔥🏋️‍♂️

A couple of months back, I sold the Body Masters T-Bar Row. While a lot of people swear by it as one of the best, I was never a fan of the feel. The goal was always to replace it with something better—and I finally locked down what I consider to be the best: the Precor Icarian T-Bar Row.

This thing is built like a tank, smooth as hell, and gives the perfect range of motion for heavy, controlled rows. Another upgrade for the gym, another win for the lifters. 💪

🎧 Why No Headphones at Iron Arena? 🎧

At Iron Arena, we have a no-headphones rule that’s been a part of our culture since we opened in 2012. Here’s why:

1️⃣ Community First: This fosters a sense of interaction and support among members. Need a spot or lift-off? You don’t have to interrupt someone lost in their own playlist.

2️⃣ Safety Matters: Without headphones, lifters stay more aware of their surroundings, which reduces distractions and creates a safer environment for everyone.

3️⃣ The Music Speaks for Itself: We use QSC DJ speakers connected to Wi-Fi, allowing members to control the playlist on a first-come, first-served basis. From hip-hop, rock, metal, to house music, the atmosphere keeps everyone focused and motivated. This system has been working flawlessly for over 12 years, building a culture of shared energy and respect.

We know it’s not for everyone, but it’s part of what makes Iron Arena special. Our goal is to build a supportive, engaging environment where lifters feel connected and driven.

Iron Arena Code of Conduct: Rules & Regulations
1️⃣ Headphones are strictly prohibited.
2️⃣ Be mindful of your surroundings, others, and use common sense. When someone is setting up for a lift, DO NOT walk in front of them.
3️⃣ DO NOT crush the blocks of chalk.
4️⃣ DO NOT put anything on the upholstery (beverages or weights).
5️⃣ DO NOT remove calibrated bars from combo racks. Other bars are free to move around.
6️⃣ Safeties in the combo racks must be set at the correct height for bench at all times. Remove them when squatting, as they are ONLY designed for bench.
7️⃣ Safeties in the power racks must always be set at the correct height when squatting. Front squats must be done OUTSIDE of the rack.
8️⃣ When combo racks are not in use, the bench goes back, and the bar is placed on bench cradles. For squats, the bench moves to the rear outside of the platform.
9️⃣ DO NOT lean plates against the combo racks or any other equipment.
🔟 Eleiko colored competition disks face out when on the trees. Rogue calibrated plates face out on the power racks. Steel plates face in on the power racks and plate trees.
1️⃣1️⃣ After use, ALWAYS wipe the head of the benches with gym wipes.
1️⃣2️⃣ DO NOT slam your deadlifts. Since we are on the second floor of a warehouse with a wood floor, there’s a risk of damaging the foundation. While I don’t expect lifters to maintain perfect control, gently lower the weights to the ground. Please take SOME caution.

Iron Arena is built on respect—respect for the space, the equipment, and the people around you. Let’s keep it that way. 🙌

Throwing it back with a true gem: the Nautilus Pullover 2ST—an iconic piece of equipment you don’t see in many gyms anymore. Designed by Arthur Jones, the 2ST line was the last equipment he worked on before selling Nautilus in 1986. It was also the first Nautilus line to use a ribbon cable instead of a chain, marking a significant innovation in exercise machine design.

This machine is perfect for back training, especially if you’re dealing with elbow injuries. By isolating the lats and eliminating arm involvement, it takes the stress off the elbows and prevents cheating with the arms. No wonder it was one of Dorian Yates’ favorite machines, helping him build that legendary wide back.
