From the City of North Myrtle Beach:

Visitors and Residents Should Move Vehicles From Low Lying/Flood Prone Areas Due to High Storm Surge and Flash Flooding.

Forecast models show Tropical Storm Debby will bring significant rainfall to our area that is capable of catastrophic and historic flooding. Expect extremely heavy rain over a relatively short amount of time, potentially causing storm surge and flash flooding, this Tuesday through Thursday.

We urge visitors and residents in low lying and flood prone areas to move their vehicles to higher ground near HWY 17. Do not wait until the water begins to rise, as flash flooding is also expected. Property managers and short-term rental property owners should immediately share this information with their guests.

Join us on the coast of South Carolina for the Salute from the Shore on Thursday, July 4 🇺🇸

Salute from the Shore is a unique opportunity for individuals to salute and honor our Armed Forces while celebrating Independence Day on South Carolina beaches.

The military flyover will begin at 1 PM at Cherry Grove and will stretch the entire length of South Carolina’s coast. This year, as we celebrate Salute from the Shore's 15th year, a C-17 from the Charleston Air Force Base, F16s from the McEntire Joint National Guard Base, and a privately owned Vintage Aircraft will be featured in the flyover.

South Carolina Highway 9 ends at the Atlantic Ocean at Cherry Grove Beach. Highway 9 is a true mountains-to-sea highway as it begins at a stone-arched entrance gate in the North Carolina mountain town of Montreat.

Highway 9 winds down the mountains past Lake Lure and into the foothills crossing into South Carolina north of Spartanburg. From Spartanburg, SC 9 runs more east as it begins to parallel the North Carolina state line passing through towns like Chester, Lancaster, Pageland, and Cheraw.

SC 9 from Cheraw to the coast is one of the many inland routes that feed into the Grand Strand - with highway 9 being the main route into North Myrtle Beach and Cherry Grove.

If you are on the oceanfront tonight, this could be a memory maker moment!

Heads up! SpaceX plans to launch Falcon9 into space this evening at 8:34pm (about 40 minutes after sunset) and the trajectory is up the southeast coast. If the launch isn’t delayed and clouds cooperate, the vapor trail should be easy to see and brilliant. It’s worth a venture outdoors for sure!

Why will the rocket's exhaust plume be so bright? While it will be fairly dark at the ground, the rocket will be at an altitude (40-50 miles high) where the sun is still out so it illuminates the expanding exhaust plume just perfectly to create the brilliant light. It may look like a cosmic squid! 🚀🦑
