EDIT: this event has been cancelled due to current river conditions and weather. It will be rescheduled for October with a date to be determined. Thanks to Winyah Rivers Alliance for putting this together and we will see you in October!
Let’s help keep our rivers beautiful and clean! We have teamed up with Winyah Rivers Alliance to help clean up a section of the Waccamaw River. Chris Anderson Landing off of Hwy 9 in Longs is a popular spot for locals who enjoy fishing, boating and kayaking. It’s a beautiful and peaceful stretch of nature that needs your help. Recent flooding has brought litter to this area that can be harmful to wildlife and unsightly to those enjoying the beauty of South Carolina. We’ve personally seen our fellow water lovers cleaning up what they could as they go as well as our staff and customers doing so as well. With added volunteers we could do this together!
If water conditions permit and you would like to volunteer on Friday September 27th from 9am to 12pm we will be at Chris Anderson Landing.
Bring gloves (work gloves and/or disposable gloves), litter picker upper (if you have one), sunscreen/bug spray, wear appropriate clothes for picking up litter (long sleeve shirt, long pants, closed toe shoes or boots). Bring your boat (motor boat, kayak/canoe/paddleboard), life jacket and whistle.
Our litter cleanup will focus on the parking area, the adjacent swamp and forest trail, as well as the river upstream and downstream of the landing. We'll also be celebrating World Rivers Day (officially September 22nd) and National Public Lands Day (officially September 28th).
We will provide you with a kayak, life jacket and paddle if you do not have your own.
