Yes, we have Fox in our Dunes. Please keep your dogs on a short leash. The fox will not harm your dog, but your dog will go after them. I haven't seen any babies yet, but probably hidden in dens.

Protecting the coastline.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The federal government plans to spend more than $13 million to conduct the periodic nourishment of the City of North Myrtle Beach Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) project. Overall $56M has been allocated to the Myrtle Beach CSRM project.

Wes Wilson, a project manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), announced the funding this week to North Myrtle Beach City Manager, Mike Mahaney. The funding will replenish sand along approximately nine miles of North Myrtle Beach coastline and is part of a larger USACE project to pump sand onto almost twenty-seven miles of Grand Strand beaches.

Work will involve dredging sand from offshore borrow sites and placing it on the beaches to construct a full periodic renourishment. The total volume of sand included in the project won’t be known until the City’s beach survey data is available to determine the current sand deficit. The project will involve widening the beach, rebuilding new dunes, planting of dune vegetation, and installation of sand fencing.

The start date for the renourishment is uncertain and won’t be known until the Army Corps of Engineers can finalize the project’s engineering and award construction to a contractor.

“Aerial view of what rip currents look like. We are entering the season of double red flag 🚩 🚩days.

It means the water is closed bc of dangerous rip currents that will sweep you out to sea. Unnecessary drownings occur each year by tourists who either do not know or do not follow the flags. Standing on the shoreline it may not look dangerous.

If double red flags 🚩🚩are flying, do not get in the water.

If you ever caught in a rip current, do not PANIC. Swim parallel to the shore until you are out of it. Never try to swim straight back to shore as you will tire out and likely drown. As you see in the photo, going towards the waves with the white caps will get you back to shore. Stay safe!! “

ELSA came with torrential rain and lingering winds! Rain pelleted under ocean side doors creating puddles and drips. Big thanks to our wonderful guest for pushing and sopping the water out. Special thanks to the Donatelli's who helped me carry the shop vac up. No permanent damage, just wind driven water. Always thankful that God gave us tail winds to help dry up the moisture. To some it is a loss of vacation time, to us it is property worth securing for centuries to come. Thank you Super Guest for working with us and Mother Nature....
