🎈ON THIS DATE, June 18, 1988: 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆’𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 opened at the Magic Kingdom. Actress Cindy Williams (from the ‘70s sitcom “Laverne & Shirley”) and First Lady Nancy Reagan helped with opening ceremonies. 🎉
The “land” was designed to resemble Duckburg, the hometown of Donald Duck, and to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 60th birthday. It featured attractions such as “Mickey’s Birthday Surprise,” a live stage show, and Mickey’s House for meet-and-greets.
Located between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland (past the Tomorrowland Speedway), guests could now arrive via the Walt Disney World Railroad, as a new station had been added.
The area was transformed into Mickey’s Starland in 1990 and later into Mickey’s Toontown Fair in 1996. In 2011, Mickey’s Toontown Fair closed to make way for the new Fantasyland expansion, which included the Storybook Circus area. 🐘
