Sea turtle hatching time is here! As the first nests laid on Topsail Island get closer to hatching, our need is just a few more concrete placers - or as we like to call them sand smoothers - to create ramps of smoothed sand from the nest to the ocean. This makes it easier for the hatchlings to get safely to the water. With 96 nests (and counting) along our 26 miles of beach, these are important pieces of equipment for each of our volunteer beach coordinators to have! Nesting season begins May 1st. Please fill in holes dug on the beach, remove all personal items from the beach daily, and keep the beach as dark and natural as possible.

Do you own or rent a beach front house on Topsail Island? If so, remember "lights out" went into effect as of May 1st. Darkness along the beaches is imperative for a successful sea turtle nesting season.
