A nesting loggerhead sea turtle was struck and killed by a car on Anna Marie Island early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

So happy that momma turtles have returned to Topsail Island. Hopefully guest of The Lazy Beagle Beach House get to witness a nest being discovered.

Remember - during this season to keep all lights facing the beach out after 9pm. We don't want Momma Turtle getting turned around on the beach mistaking house lights for the moon beam on the water.

The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center will be hosting a Sea Turtle Release in Topsail Beach on Wednesday, August 16th at 10:00 AM, weather permitting, at the Crews Avenue Access (Beach Access 10). Parking will be available in the lot utilized for the Topsail Beach Summer Craft Market (802 S Anderson) and the Historical Society of Topsail Island (720 Channel Blvd) is opening their parking lot for visitors as well.

My opinion: dig all the holes 🕳️ you want to in the beach. I don’t get it, but if it makes you happy, go for it. Just remember, fill them back in at the end of the day. It’s pretty simple. Leave the place better than you found it knuckleheads!

Our ocean rescue crew came across this hole while checking the flags this morning. The picture does not do it justice. It was a very large hole. We want everyone to have a safe and fun time while they are on the beach but if you dig a hole please fill it back in for your safety, other peoples safety, and the sea turtles that visit our beach at night.

Great surprise for us this morning. A momma turtle made a nest in front of the The Lazy Beagle Beach House! It was not in a great spot so the Turtle Team moved it down beach to a little better spot.

Those of us to have been to Topsail Island can easily understand why it was named best Beach in NC. Beautiful beaches, calm waters and wide beaches to search for natures treasures.

I was walking with my toes in the water just 2 weeks ago.

If you have never been and you're looking for a calming scenic beach, you need to add it to your bucket list.

In NC Tripping's Best of North Carolina contest, which brought in thousands of votes, Topsail Island came out on top for the best beach category.

We were there Saturday and Sunday. Pretty scary winds and high tides. There was about 3 feet of dunes impacted in front of our house. No real damage but sand everywhere....

With extremely high tides, we are keeping a close watch on the nests for wash over and flooding. Some wash over is okay, but if you have any concerns, please call the number on the NC Wildlife Comm sign at the nest “For local information call______ “ to get in touch with the correct coordinator for that section of the island. Have an address or the code number on the back of the sign. Thanks for helping protect our hatchlings!
