Day 6 - Left Garmisch-Partenkirchen and headed to Berchtesgaden. Cute little town. This was our lunch stop before heading to Kehlsteinhaus, otherwise known as Eagles Nest, Hitler’s home on top of the mountain. Unfortunately the weather did not
cooperate and we were not able to see any of the fantastic views. However we did get to tour Hitlers bunker which was pretty interesting. Left for Salzburg and stopped to see the gazebo as well as the tree lined lane used in the Sound of Music. Made our way to our hotel and had dinner at the town center of Salzburg at Cafe Mozart. Roamed the streets a little and got some great pictures of Mozart’s birthplace.

Day 5 - Up early for a horse and carriage Alpine tour. Beautiful sights! Then boarded a train to Innsbruck. The ride was incredible. On the side of a mountain high above the valley. Spent the day in Innsbruck visiting the Cathedral of Saint James, built in the baroque style. Got to see the most famous ski lift that has been used for three different Olympics. Spent the afternoon exploring Innsbruck. Returned to Garmisch-Partenkurchen for the evening. Ate a Greek restaurant that was awesome!

Day 3 - Very somber day. Visited Dachau, the site of the former concentration camp. Our guide was very passionate and informative. Something we all hope will never happen again.

Day 4- Left Munich for Schwangau, a cute little town that is at the base of the mountain from Neuschwanstein Castle, which was Walt Disneys inspiration for Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland. Gorgeous views from the top. The walk down was a little tedious! Onto Oberammergau which is famous for its Passion Play held every ten years. Received a private behind the scenes tour of the theatre. According to local legend, the play is performed every ten years because of a vow made by the inhabitants of the village that if God spared them from the effects of the bubonic plague then sweeping the region. The 2030 performance is already sold out! Settled into our next hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a picturesque Alpine town nestled in the Alps.

Day 1 and 2 in Munich Germany. Beautiful city. Spent time in the city center seeing all the historical sites. Dinner at Hofbrauhaus with family and friends. Got to see the Glockenspiel in Marianplatz. Checked out Viktualienmarkt. Met up with tour guide for Travalgar’s Sound of Music tour. Looking forward to moving onto Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Monday.

I recently stayed at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and stayed in a Cars themed family suite. Great option for a larger family or families looking for a little more room. Sleeps 6 and two full baths. The theming in both the room and resort is amazing.
