Review from Doug Kaufman: F***y did a marvelous job arranging my wife’s and my first European adventure to London, Paris and Normandy. Many highlights including a private London walking tour, an East side food tour (such great treats), a tour of Stonehenge and Bath, a private trip out to Normandy Beach (gripping history), a ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower, a private trip to the beautiful Oceanside cliffs of Etretat, a perfect walking tour of Paris by the nine other Paris by Martin and food tour of Paris. Such great thrills for us and the drivers and guides were all stupendous. Really want to thank WAC Travel and F***y in particular for our wonderful and memorable trip.

Last night we celebrated WAC Travel's 15 year anniversary! Unfortunately, we were so busy laughing, catching up and killing off the supply of Bolgheri wine at Valley Rock Inn that we forgot to take a photo together 😂

While many of you are most familiar with us for our expertise in Europe, we have actually been offering tailor-made itineraries to Africa to our repeat clients since our inception in 2007. This week at WAC Travel we are celebrating the news that travel can resume to one of our favorite countries, South Africa. It is a country rich in contrasts with scenery ranging from vineyards to beaches, and with wildlife from penguins and whales to lions and rhinos. We plan itineraries which are completely private, staying in small luxury lodges in the wilderness where Covid is of little concern. Game drives are in an open sided Jeep, meals are outside by the open fire, and most internal flights are in a small plane with just you and a handful of others.

The best time of year for warm weather is our winter, but there are plenty of excuses to visit year round. You could also combine South Africa with one of the surrounding countries which are also open to Americans: Namibia (giant sand dunes), Botswana (diversity of wildlife), or Zambia (Victoria Falls). Having traveled extensively though all four countries, I would be excited to help you plan. Please note that travelers must present a negative Covid-19 test dating no less than 72 hours before departing their country of origin.

With a controversial and highly polarizing history, the Oracle of Delphi, otherwise known as Pythia, made quite the reputation at the Temple of Apollo. Shrouded in mystery, magic, and occult activity, the temple of oracles now lay in ruins; it is the perfect place to explore the mysteries of the ancient world and the superstitions that swirled within it. According to some sources, the Pythia would sit on a perforated tripod centered over a fissure in the rock which would emit sweet smelling gasses from the earth; these fumes would send the Pythia into an altered state of mind and physicality in which she could deliver her oracle. With low doses of the gases, the Pythia would remain calm and deliver her thoughts, which were said to be the direction of the gods. With high doses, the Pythia would move into a frenzied state, thrashing about, wildly screeching, and chanting.

As the longest walled path in Europe, (and the second longest in the world next to the Great Wall of China), the Walls of Ston is a historical hike with breathtaking views. Nestled into the mountainside on the Peljesac Peninsula, the walls stand overlooking the clear blue waters, making for a picturesque escape from the more crowded tourist areas in Croatia. Stretching over 3 miles, the Walls of Ston connect the villages of Mali Ston and Ston to the southwest; they start in Ston and weave their way up the mountainside to the Pozvizd Fortress, then meet with the walls of Mali Ston. There are a total of 40 towers and 5 fortresses along the route to explore.

Valensole is a quaint french village known for its vast and beautiful lavender fields. From the aromatics to the vibrant colors against the pale blue sky, Valensole is a breathtaking stop while adventuring through picturesque Provence. In addition to the famed lavender fields, visitors can also visit one of the sunflower fields that the Valensole plateau has to offer! Not quite as popular, but just as beautiful, the sunflower fields are bursting with life and color. Between the purple lavender and yellow sunflowers, visitors can anticipate miles of sweeping florals. Mid-June to early July is the best time to visit, as there is a short window for when the lavender is in full bloom!

It's incredible that this majestic mountain magnificence is just 3 hours' north of the city of Venice. The characteristic rock of the Dolomites consists of fossilized coral reefs formed during the Triassic Period (around 250 million years ago). The culture in the region is a unique blend of Italian and Austrian since it was Austrian until annexation by Italy after World War I.

With dramatic views over the Rio Duoro, the Jardins do Palacio de Cristal is the perfect spot to escape the city and meander the gardens at leisure. Although the former Crystal Palace is no longer there, the diversely styled and constructed gardens remain untainted and offer a welcoming invitation to guests. With a panoramic view spanning from the Dom Luis Bridge to the Arrabida Bridge, the Jardins do Palacio de Cristal may just be the best view over Porto.

Sitting in apparent anguish, the Colossus of Villa Demidoff, also known as Colossus of the Apennines, is a giant outdoor sculpture that seems to grow right from the rocky ledge it sits on. Located just outside of Florence, the Colossus sits in the transformed Park of Pratolino, next to a charming waterlily pond, and surrounded by acres of parkland to explore.

With white-washed walls and a bell tower entrance, the Vlacherna Monastery is a picturesque islet set against the backdrop of the sparkling turquoise Gulf of Halikiopoulos. From the towering mountains in the distance, to the stone walkway that connects the quaint monastery to the coastal mainland, this mini-historical-site is one of the most emblematic of Corfu.

Built in 1619 by Salzburg archbishop Markus Sittikus, the Schloss Hellbrunn Palace was created as a summer playhouse for the archbishop to entertain guests on hot afternoons. Today, visitors are welcomed to take a refreshing tour of the Trick Gardens and see what the world's funnest castle is all about!
