With all this snow has me itching to get in the boat! Just to think last year at this time I was laying waste to browns. I’m hoping to be back in the boat by the middle of March. If the trend of February continues, don’t waste to long to book your trip as days are going fast.

Had the pleasure of getting Ryan and Edward on the ice yesterday. First off was a spunky steelhead followed up with a couple of misses then all of a sudden I hear Edward yell out from the shack “I got one!” He was smiling ear to ear as he plucked a 8lb brown while jigging. Also if you haven’t checked out the new ice huntress rods, go take a look. I’ve been very impressed with the action and flexibility of them.

Had a couple great groups this past weekend out chasing pike, bass, gills and crappies. It’s always a good day when I get to bring some home for a fish fry. The ice I’m on is still 10-12” but I can’t stress it enough, take your time and use your spud bar getting out on the lakes.

Weekend recap- decided to give the clam trap attack a go. Saturday Tina and I took a ride to Antioch in search of crappies which was a bust but Tina stuck a very nice 17.5” walleye and I stuck a handful of whitebass and yellow bass. Sunday I decided to go give a lake I’ve never fished a go for pike and it didn’t take long to jump to the top 10 for the stringer of 3 pike. Too bad my du***ss didn’t take a picture of the first 31” pike properly. But overall with two and one jig rod i was able to go 5-9 or 10. Besides it being a hair past balls cold, thank goodness for my X-over to keep me out of the wind. 11 out of 58 people isn’t to shabby with only fishing pike for 5hrs.

As one year closes out and another is about to start, I’d like to thank everyone who came out this year from the rivers to inland to the big pond. It was a pleasure meeting and fishing with all of you. Also big thank you to the companies that kept me going throughout the year and a couple more I know I’m forgetting.

With the forecast coming up, it looks like I ran the last two boat trips till the spring, Sunday was Matt and James. After sticking a laker and perch fairly quickly, the search was on. With trying to get out of the wind, we found no shortage of fish but only a few that wanted to play. Yesterday had mark and bill out for some perch jerking. Nothing like a little fishing to rehab a shoulder after surgery. Now time for the cold snap and some ice trips.

Spent the last two days making one of my inland lakes look like Swiss cheese with my lite flite. Got to love when the weeds get cut right before ice up. Two days, almost 3mi each day and a total of 250 holes to only find a couple small gills, a nice crappie and a dandy 19” walleye. Now time to get the boat ready for a couple more days of open water.

Some days you ride the struggle bus, sometimes you hit the jackpot. Today was a jackpot kind of day with Mark and Bill. I couldn’t tell you how many perch were thrown back but it was interesting seeing the multiple year classes. Everywhere from 3-5” to 15.25”. It’ll be interesting to see what happens after the cold snap but I have no intention of putting the boat up just yet. If you’d like a trip give me a call or shoot me a message.

One mission today- reload my spawn collection. After missing a couple little butterballs and males, this super tanker enjoyed a chartreuse glow egg. It has been a very long time since I’ve seen a fall brown of this caliber.
