So, this just arrived in the mail. A Christmas card from a very nice family who will be staying with us in 2022. They included a lovely note about how much they and their family will be looking forward to their trip.

That's what this is all about for us. Providing a home where families can make great memories. (We even had our first marriage proposal this past year, on the beach in front of our home!)

Sun Salutation Grill Etiquette PSA-If you’re using the grill, please clean it when you’re done. Please don’t leave ashes in the grill for the next person. If the ash bucket is full, please empty upon leaving. And, please don’t throw the used charcoal in the sea oats that we paid to have planted to protect the lot. We do understand this is a rental and you’re on vacation. Yet, please be respectful of the property and future guests. Thank you so much.

Pro tip: metal outdoor furniture at a beach house is a bad idea. The salty ocean air will take one look at it and say “child, please.”

We finally took the hint and replaced Sun Salutation’s set of loungers and tables (affectionately called “Rusty”) with new polywood furniture. It’s more comfortable, more durable, and less likely to end up looking like my 1987 Nissan Sentra.

We still have a few dates left this fall and are already filling up for summer 2022. So if you want to enjoy lounging poolside on this deck, with the ocean just steps away, book with us soon!

We have to share this picture. Our pool company cleans and services the pool every week (twice/week during the summer season). Whenever they service it, they take a picture and send it to us in their report.

Our favorite pictures are the ones like these, when the pool area is filled with noodles, floats, dive sticks, and anything else that says that our guests are having fun!

(Oh, if you want to enjoy this pool - and the views of the ocean beyond - we still have some dates available later in the summer and fall.)

We have new plants on our dunes! Our sea oats guy (Barney Stinson voice: "yeah, we have a sea oats guy") was out yesterday planting on the Sun Salutation property (both the dunes and the ground between the house and the dunes). So it's a good time to mention a few things:

1. Please, please, PLEASE do not walk over the dunes to/from the beach. Do not be like the idiots we saw walking over our dunes a couple of weeks ago (when we asked them not to walk on the dunes, they replied, "but we thought it was a rental property" -- as though that matters).

The dunes are the one line of defense we have between our home and the ocean, and walking over them makes them less effective. There's a very nice access to the beach two doors down from Sun Salutation, and you don't even need to go to the street -- the lovely owners of Do Nut Delay (the orange house next to ours) are fine with our guests crossing in front of their stairs to get to the beach access.

2. By this time next week, we should have another line of dunes in place, as the beach renourishment program continues. So we will soon have two lines of dunes. Once that second line of dunes is established .... say it with me ... please, please, PLEASE do not walk over those dunes to/from the beach.

3. We are supposed to get our direct access to the beach (on the right side of the property, between Sun Salutation and the blue house next door) restored at some point. We're not sure when "some point" is. Hopefully it will be soon after the dunes are done.

Believe us, we don't like not having our direct access either. It's a temporary situation, but until the direct access is restored, it's the world we're living in.

Good morning everybody! We're gearing up for the 2021 season, and would like to ask all of you who have stayed at Sun Salutation -- is there anything that we are missing? Anything you would like to see that we don't have?

We have already upgraded the chairs in the dining room (as much fun as the see-saw game on the old picnic benches could be, we wanted something more stable).

We also changed management companies (to the terrific Coastal Vacation Resorts Oak Island) last August. Our previous company simply was not cleaning our property or maintaining it to the standards we and our guests should expect. So if you stayed before last August, and our home wasn't perfectly clean when you arrived ... we've addressed that (our new housekeeper is the best).

We're also planning to get a grill in place sometime this spring. That was far and away the #1 question we were asked this past year -- who doesn't want burgers or steaks (or veggies, for you crazy vegans!) grilled outdoors? Ideally, we'll get a gas/propane grill (charcoal is probably too messy).

At some point, we're going to upgrade the outdoor furniture. We found some nice loungers and chairs on sale last fall, and they look great on our decks ... but the salty ocean air took one look at our furniture and said "game on." So they're all starting to rust. We'll probably sand/repaint to squeeze another year or two out of them, and then upgrade to furnishings that can better handle the elements.

We've made some smaller upgrades here and there. We've bought more pots and pans (and will likely add a few more). We have a fast inflator/deflator for pool floats/inflatables, so you aren't spending time huffing and puffing.

If you have any other ideas, we'd love to hear them. We are always committed to keeping Sun Salutation in top shape, and to doing everything we can to make sure you have a wonderful time! Thank you!
