While the island itself has come through relatively unscathed, the storm caused multiple road and bridge washouts on major routes to Southport, Oak Island and the surrounding area. If you plan to travel to Brunswick County, please plan your route carefully and if you encounter flooded roads remember - Turn around, don't drown!

After closing yesterday due to the historic rainfall experienced during Potential Tropical Cyclone 8, the Oak Island Accommodations office did reopen this morning and we have staff currently out and about assessing the state of the island. A storm system (known as Potential Tropical Cyclone #8) has dumped rain on Caswell Beach, Oak Island and Southport that has caused flooding of a number of major thoroughfares. The Town of Oak Island states to "please AVOID ALL TRAVEL on and off the Island until waters recede." Follow the Town of Oak Island for updates on flooded roads and closures. To ensure the safety of our staff, the Oak Island Accommodations office is closed today, but we plan to reopen tomorrow once the flooding recedes and our staff can safely return to the office. Guests and property owners on the island who have a property emergency can call 800.243.8132, but please note that our ability to respond is severely limited based on current conditions. OIA staff will begin addressing urgent work orders as soon as it is safe to do so.
