By the end of 2023, Saudi Arabia plans to open the Red Sea International Airport.

Located in the Tabuk region, it's part of a large project to develop Red Sea tourism. The project also includes plans to build hotels, marinas, and more.

The airport's design was inspired by the desert dunes. In keeping with that theme, it will contain its very own oasis, capable of producing a microclimate within the terminal. Hopefully that doesn't create any monsoons – 80% of the world's population will be able to reach this future hub in under eight hours, and no one likes a wet travel pillow.

The Polish city of Sopot is home to a rather peculiar building, known as the Crooked House (Krzywy Domek).

It was built in 2004, and was clearly inspired by three magical letters – L*D.

And it paid off – the house is world famous!

They say the building looks perfectly normal when you're drunk, but who wants to see that? We recommend admiring the Crooked House in its original form, and then hitting the local pub to ponder it.

"Surrounded Islands" is a 1983 art object pulled off by Christo Javacheff and Jeanne-Claude de Guillebon.

Eleven islands in Miami's Biscayne Bay were surrounded by 6.5 million square feet of fuchsia-pink polypropylene fabric, resembling radioactive lily blooms.

We know what you're thinking, and no – Tyler the Creator does not live here (but he wishes he did).

Behold Mount Tate (or Tateyama) in Japan.

At nearly 10,000ft (3,015m), it's the perfect backdrop for the Roof of Japan sightseeing route. But it might be surprisingly hard to see. The highway passes through a deep snow corridor in the mountains with 65-foot walls of white towering over both sides of the road. Despite their size, these drifts melt away completely every year, usually by mid-summer. April-June is the best time to see them, and any other time of year is the best time to see everything else.

Gubbio is a beautiful medieval town in the Umbria region of Italy. Every year, the town lights up the most enormous Christmas tree upon the slopes of Mount Ingino.

Strictly speaking, it isn't a tree but a giant tree-shaped outline on the mountainside made with over 3,000 colored lights. But that didn't stop it from entering the Guinness Book of Records in 1991 as the "World's Largest Christmas Tree."

The official lighting ceremony is on December 7, after which the lights come on every night through January 10.

Beijing Daxing International Airport is the largest airport terminal in China and was designed in the shape of a golden starfish.

It has five "arms" that diverge in different directions, each dedicated to a subject of national pride: silkscreen prints, tea, porcelain, agriculture, and horticulture.

The highly efficient building has a rainwater harvesting system, and uses natural light, ventilation, and other technologies to reduce energy consumption.

Finally, there's also a train station underneath the terminal that connects the airport to Beijing Western Railway Station, the bus station, and the subway. What a star!

Pilgrimages are popular. Muslims flock to Mecca, Jews head to Jerusalem, and Jains set off into the hills of Shatrunjaya near the city of Palitana.

There are 865 temples in these hills, the largest cluster of which is known as the Palitana Temples. They can only be reached by climbing 4,000 steps, and it takes the average person about three hours to do the climb. And this is no one-and-done bucket list ascent – it's said that every Jain should do 99 climbs in their lifetime.

Moral of the story: the path to enlightenment leads to juicy calves.
