Instructor Bhavana Mody fuses Bollywood dancing and music into events, encouraging everyone to get up and have some fun. Participants of Bhavana's dance class learn fun and expressive moves that they can follow very easily. She encourages self-expression, light-heartedness and laughter while dancing to some of the best Bollywood and Bhangra songs. Bhavana's varied teaching experiences give her the
unique ability to teach Indian dance to people of all ages and backgrounds -- kids, adults, Indian, non-Indian. The dance instruction is modified to meet the needs of the group and formatted according to the physical space available and the number of participants attending. Bhavana Mody has been a dancer as long as she can remember. As a child, she was caught on video a number of times gathering her sister and cousins and leading them into dance routines! To this day, she enjoys herding people at weddings and other parties into dancing the night away! Bhavana learned to dance primarily by imitating the routines and facial expressions she grew up watching in Bollywood films. She learned how to dance garba (Indian folk dance) and modern Western dance simultaneously through classes and workshops in college. Her passions for multi-culturalism, dance and movement inspired her to study and practice a variety of dance styles throughout the years, including salsa, hip-hop, samba, and capoeira. During the last three years, Bhavana has focused on Indian dance -- back to her roots! She has been teaching Bollywood and Bhangra classes as a way to fuse together fitness, fun and to share a very joyous aspect of her culture with others. In addition to teaching Indian dance, Bhavana is a certified yoga teacher and has been teaching hatha yoga classes for 7 years. For her "main" job, Bhavana is an elementary school teacher and has been in public schools for 5 years. In her classroom, dance is an essential component of her physical education curriculum.
