Day 14: The last landing 😭
🍳😋 We had eggs and sausages for breakfast and got updates on the return flight. While the ship stays anchored in King George Island, dense fog surrounds us.
⛪️ In the morning, we had an exciting landing at the Russian Orthodox Church at Bellingshausen Station. This wooden construction, held together with chains and steel threads, unveils a fascinating history. The rest of the day was chillin' on the ship: reading, napping, and playing board games. For dinner, we dug into some tasty pasta, followed by an irresistible Tiramisu crafted by Naomi.

Day 13: Got our breakfast game on and geared up for a landing at Half Moon Island, a rad crescent-shaped spot 🧊💙. Snowflakes and a bit of wind couldn't stop us from exploring the island's gems—Chinstrap penguins, sea lions, and chillin' elephant seals. Last-minute pics and selfies to seal the memories 🤳.
🚤 Lunched on board, kicking off a 5-hour transit to King George, our final pitstop. Some kicked back, read, or soaked in the scenery from the bridge.
🍸✨ Dinner vibes were next level—Kelly threw down Margaritas, Ro decked out a table with fancy cloths, and the crew rolled in to join the feast. Toasts, heartfelt speeches from Justin, Dee Ann, and Jaraad, topped off with a crew-curated video of our epic journey.

Day 11 - Gerlache Strait Expedition 🛥🐧
A wind warning prompted a two-hour break during the transit through the Gerlache Strait. By 11 o'clock, we reached Palaver Point, a two-hour landing surrounded by chinstrap penguins and their adorable chicks, accompanied by breathtaking views 😍🗻.
🌬 Following a lunch of cake and salad, we set course for Cierva Bay in another two-hour transit. Unfortunately, strong winds prevented a landing, but from the deck, we reveled in the sight of whales, jumping penguins, and Leopard seals. The icebergs and glaciers provided a perfect scenic backdrop.
After dinner, we geared up for an 18-hour transit to the South Shetlands, marking the final stops of this unforgettable journey 🥺.

Waking up to the news of impending strong winds, we swiftly adapted our plans to the last-minute changes.
Post breakfast, we embarked on a breathtaking stroll through Freud Passage - truly amazing! 😍
🧐🐧 While the forecast impacted our landings, the afternoon brought an insightful tour of the engine room with Emiliano, followed by a discussion on penguins and scientific endeavors in Antarctica led by Chris Linder. Later in the evening, Jarrad treated us to a captivating presentation on the history of the Hans Hansson.
😅After dinner, the crew organized a trivia game, putting our Antarctica and ship knowledge to the test.

Day 9: By mid-morning, we touched down on Orne Island, a multi-sensory adventure with Gentoo and Chinstrap🐧💙 penguins. It's amusing how everyone takes their own path during landings, only to reunite later and swap tales of their unique experiences.
🛥❄️Our second landing graced Useful Island, a small archipelago boasting more Antarctic marvels. The panoramic views hammered home the point of our insignificance in this vast realm.
The afternoon treated us to a whale spectacle, not just the usual bubble feeding but some jaw-dropping jumps as well. As the evening light painted the landscape with unforgettable hues, we sailed through Wilhelmina Bay🐋💫.
😋Dinner featured a fish extravaganza, followed by a surprise lemony dessert adorned with penguin-shaped cookies. It's the little touches that make all the difference.

Day 8: Our day kicked off cruising towards Palmer Station, one of the US bases in Antarctica. A Zodiac ride treated us to views of elephant seals, petrels, and weddell seals 🦭💙.
😏🙌🏼 Although COVID measures kept us from stepping inside, the station wowed us with a Jacuzzi, sauna, and a bustling harbor. Two locals shared their projects, handed out postcards, and even let us stamp our passports as a base visit keepsake.
For lunch, it was cauliflower soup with a hint of wasabi, and the rest of the day unfolded on board. Chris Linder delivered a Timelapse presentation, followed by a session of feedback and tweaks on photos chosen by passengers. Emphasis on nailing that perfect composition 📸 .
🏔️ In Paradise Bay, the serene waters mirrored mountains, glaciers, and blue ice, leaving us breathless. We capped off the day with a Japanese-style pork and rice dinner.

Day 7 - Hans Hansson Hullabaloo! 🥳🧡
🛳️We kick off the return journey, cruising the Lemaire Channel under a jaw-dropping sun and surreal landscapes. Perfect deck weather, even though the wind's always playing its tune. Antarctic weather, unforgettable, right?
Mid-morning, we hit up Damoy Point. An old Argentinean shelter from '55. Bonus find: a British shelter turned museum 🇬🇧.
🐧 Post minestrone soup lunch, our second pitstop was Jougla Point (right across from Port Lockroy). More Gentoo penguins, bigger chicks, and a nest of blue-eyed shags. On the other side of the island, a massive bay, a blue iceberg, and two minke whales welcomed us.
🥃🍖 Back on the ship, a full-on party: Paraguayan hammock, killer speaker, Gin Tonic with glacier ice, and Jaraad manning the grill. BBQ night! Deck time filled with singing, chatting, and swapping stories from the trip. A daydream. The brave even took a dip in the icy waters for the Polar Plunge.

Day6: Started the day with some killer shakshuka whipped up by our chef Naomi. Meanwhile, outside, the whales decided to throw a party around the Hans Hansson, giving us a one-of-a-kind Antarctic spectacle 🇦🇶✨
🐧😍 On Yalour Island, we stumbled upon a massive crew of adelie penguins. Nature put on a show for us: a leopard seal decided to join the party, hunting its lunch while humpback whales put on a sea dance in the background. It was pure magic.
🛥️ Our second pitstop at Petermann Island unveiled a 1955 shelter, more Gentoo penguins, seals, and even an elephant seal. Explored Wordie House, a British base turned museum, wrecked by a tsunami.
Last on the list was the Ukrainian base Vernadsky 🇺🇦, where we met up with the Ocean Tramp crew, sipped on some wine, and downed some home-brewed beer at the only bar in Antarctica. And oh, the day said its goodbyes with a killer sunset at 11 pm!

Day 5: Setting foot on Point Charcot 🇦🇶💙
🗻🐧 After breakfast, we hopped off at Point Charcot, where a bunch of Gentoo penguins stole the show in a jaw-dropping landscape. Climbed to a viewpoint for some unique views; from the top, it was just breathtaking. An isthmus connecting the mountain with the peninsula, glaciers on both sides, icebergs on the right, and the Hans Hansson waiting for us on the left. Spent a good chunk of time soaking in the view in silence, one thing for sure: Antarctica has its own sound.
🌄✨ In the afternoon, another landing in a bay full of penguins was on the agenda. The diversity of the landscape never stops being amazing. After dinner, we caught a clear sunset, sailing between glaciers with the Hans Hansson, a perk of this ship. The crew, all about photography, helped capture some of these unforgettable moments.

Exploring Danco Island and Cuverville 🚢✨
🐧🥰 Woke up to the Hans Hansson cruising, gearing up for the first landing on Danco Island. Got greeted by an impressive colony of Gentoo penguins. Between the shore and the ice, we checked out nests, watched penguin chicks, and enjoyed the penguins' water acrobatics. After two hours, back to the ship for a lunch of hake with couscous.
🚤 🦭 Next up, Zodiac time among icebergs, where we ran into leopard seals and Weddell seals. Sailed along the coast of Danco Island, exploring ice formations and incredible icebergs. With little time left for the second landing at Cuverville Island, we rushed for more Gentoo penguins, so many that keeping the required distance of 5 meters was a challenge!

First Whale Watching Adventure 🐳💙
✨❄️ The day kicked off early with a hearty American breakfast and panoramic views of the Antarctic continent! Our first landing at Portal Point led us to a former British base (now in ruins) teeming with Weddell seals. We also caught sight of some beautiful leopard seals lounging around. Amidst the snow and mountains, we spotted icebergs, and in the distance, our beloved Hans Hansson was anchored in the bay.
🥰 After an Eastern-style rice lunch, we ventured further into the bay and encountered some majestic humpback whales - the sight was unforgettable: up to 3 whales feeding right in front of the boat! The afternoon in Wilhelmina Bay treated us to more aquatic dances of these giants. Dinner, a delicious lasagna, closed an unforgettable day.
