One Last Landing, One Last Surprise ❄️🌍
🥹 Last week, we made our final landing of the expedition on King George Island, the last stop before setting course for Punta Arenas and home. But Antarctica always has one more surprise in store.
Here, near the Russian Bellingshausen Station, we visited the Trinity Church, the southernmost Russian Orthodox church in the world. Standing in this remote, icy landscape, it’s a reminder that even in the most extreme places, human presence leaves its mark, whether through science, exploration, or faith.

Yesterday, our expedition landed on Deception Island, home to one of only two active volcanoes on the Antarctic Peninsula 🌋❄️. In this video, Alex—our guide on the Hans Hansson—shares a glimpse into this unique place, where dramatic history, geology, and wildlife intersect.
🛳✨ Today, we're sailing north toward King George Island, slowly saying goodbye to Antarctica as we await our flight back to Punta Arenas. But the adventure isn't over yet—the memories of Deception Island, its volcanic landscapes, and fascinating past will stay with us forever.

Today was a day at sea, slowly making our way north as we begin to say goodbye to the Antarctic Peninsula 🛥️🌊. Looking back, the past days have been filled with towering glaciers, curious whales, playful penguins, and moments of absolute silence in a world of ice.
🥹✨ But this isn’t the end—Deception Island awaits, and with it, new landscapes and surprises. Antarctica always has one last gift to offer, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

Sailing Through Magic ❄️🚢
What does it mean to travel through a place as magical as Antarctica? ✨🐋 Matías, part of the Hans Hansson crew, shares his thoughts—because sailing through these waters is more than just a journey, it’s an experience that stays with you forever.

Sending Letters from the Southernmost Post Office ✉️❄️
🛥️✨ Yesterday, we stopped at Port Lockroy, the southernmost post office in the world. Nestled in a stunning bay on Goudier Island, this historic site has been a link between Antarctica and the rest of the world for decades.
In this video, George, the Port Lockroy postmaster, explains how the Hans Hansson is about to carry thousands of letters and postcards to the Falkland Islands, where they will board a plane to England before being distributed across the globe 🛫📬. A timeless tradition, traveling from the White Continent to mailboxes worldwide.

In the waters off Danco Island, two humpback whales—likely a mother and her calf—graced us with an unforgettable display 🐋❄️. They danced around our Zodiac for minutes, surfacing, diving, and moving effortlessly through the icy blue.
🥰 A moment of pure magic, shared with a few lucky passengers from the Hans Hansson.

This morning, we stopped at Danco Island, part of the largest Gentoo penguin colony on the Antarctic Peninsula 🐧. As Alex, our guide explains, this entire region is home to more Gentoo penguins than anywhere else on the peninsula.
✨🐋 While some of us spent time observing the colony, others explored by Zodiac, spotting humpback whales gliding through the icy waters. A perfect Antarctic morning, surrounded by wildlife at every turn.

On World Whale Day 🐋✨, Becky, our stewardess on the Hans Hansson, shared the importance of Happy Whale—one of the citizen science projects we contribute to during our expeditions.
📸 By photographing whale tails, we help researchers track and identify individual whales across the globe, adding valuable data to marine conservation efforts.
Every photo tells a story. Every sighting makes a difference 😉.

The water was a deep, striking blue, and towering glaciers 🏔️ surrounded us as we explored the passages of Spert Island, at the western edge of Trinity Island, by Zodiac. Among ice-carved mountains, we spotted a few fur seals 🦭 sprawled on the rocks, Antarctic terns gliding overhead, and chinstrap and gentoo penguins 🐧 swimming in the distance.
Later, as we circled Bluff Island and navigated through Graham Passage, the day took an unexpected turn—a pod of 6 or 7 orcas 🐋 passed incredibly close, moving with effortless grace. Then, further along our route, humpback whales surfaced near the Hans Hansson, followed by an Antarctic Minke Whale. Finally, we landed at Port Point, where, after visiting the historic Cape Reclus refuge, we took a symbolic step—setting foot on the Antarctic continent for the first time. Now, anchored in Foyn Harbour, we settle in for the night, hoping tomorrow brings a day of kayaking 🚣♂️ and a polar plunge ❄️ for the bravest.

Three Days of Exploration and Still Going 🚢🐳
🥹 After our first landings at Half Moon Island and Yankee Harbour, where we observed chinstrap and gentoo penguins up close (always maintaining the required 5-meter distance, in line with IAATO’s responsible wildlife approach) explored by zodiac, and spotted whales in the distance, today we spent the day at sea on our way to Trinity Island.
🚢🌊 The waters were a bit rough, but the journey had its rewards: humpback whales, albatrosses soaring over the waves, and two chinstrap penguins resting on an iceberg. Onboard, Becky introduced us to the Citizen Science projects that allow us to contribute to real-time research. Now that we’ve arrived, we’re just hoping the weather cooperates so we can explore by kayak tomorrow 🛶
