Cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae) is not a threat in Deep Creek Lake.
HART for Animals has had some inquiries regarding the deadly plant that has taken the lives of dogs in the south. After making a few calls, including Maryland DNR and Deep Creek Lake Management, all is well here! Eric Null, Lake Manager, confirmed that Deep Creek Lake does not have a high nutrient content to begin with and the water would be neon green if the blue-green algae were present. These unfortunate instances in the south were in smaller bodies of water on very hot days. If any specific events would happen, Lake Management would make sure everyone was alerted. If you have any concerns, please check with Lake Management or call MD DNR.

The episode is featuring Deep Creek Lake and my husband, Win Stewart, will be on the show as the contractor.
