Owner/operator, Joe Hirsch, has a big announcement to make!!
Back In January 2021, I had decided to sell the bus and dissolve the business. It was a hard decision, but the effects of covid both on the business and my mental health were staggering. When everything shut down last year including my job (I’m a teacher, I worked remotely) and the business, I fell into a dark depression. The bus was a physical representation of what I perceived as my failure, so I resolved to sell it and, reluctantly, my wife agreed. It had been a financial drain on us but we have been completely blessed to keep our heads over water while the business was not able to run. I could not, in good conscience, open up a business that it’s sole purpose is to cram people into a tight space and take them all over the state. I let everything slide for the business. And was ready to be done. But then in March, KTWU's Sunflower Journeys aired the episode that we were featured in; we got a huge influx in questions about if we had tours and if we were still open. I ignored so many because I was not ready to admit defeat. But then, in main part to my wife, I decided that Kansas needs this business. People want this business. We are the only travel bus whose sole purpose is to show off Kansas and her wonders. Kansas has been largely ignored when it comes to tourism, but we are an amazing tourist state. For decades, Kansas tourism had tried to compare itself to Colorado or California or even Missouri or Oklahoma, trying to show why we are better. But with people like me, Marci Penner, and the Kansas Explorers Club, the state has realized that we are unique and to lean into our uniqueness. We aren’t like other states. We are Kansas. I feel like I help show the viability of Kansas tourism to politicians, businesses, people from other states/countries, and even our own Kansas people. What would it say if a purely Kansas tourism travel business would close? So with all that we have a big announcement: we aren’t closing. We are reopening! We are going to be opening for tours soon! I have been getting many things worked out thanks to the incredible help of my wife, family, and friends. By the end of the week we will have updated the website and have tours up for the summer! If you have a private tour idea and want to rent the bus for family and friends, let me know!!
I am going to do a better job of responding to people and just being better for my customers, friends, and most importantly, my family and myself.
So be prepared Kansas, you will be seeing a tour bus enjoying your scenery and history very soon!!!
🌻🌻See you down the road!!🌻🌻
