Getting close to back bay striper season, which begins March 1st. Will we participate as Mighty Heron Charters? Oh no. Once the novelty of the "first fish" wears off, it's all about freezing and dreaming 'til the water warms up. We will start running river striper trips late April. I have a new toy/method I can't wait to try out.

I blurred his face because he didn't break any rules but it what he did last Spring that was "not cool" and led to some changes. B&T owners do talk to each other and apparently the fish below was presented at shops all up and down the NJ coast for "first fish" prizes. So Capt. Dave Showell at Absecon Bay Sportsman Center declared he will be trimming the tail of the first striper of the year if you want to claim the prize.

Hey Gang,

I was asked a question by one of the young people on the boat last year that went something like, "In the Spring do the days get longer at an even rate or are some days faster than others?" It was a good question and I didn't have an answer. I got to thinking on the question now that we can definitely see the days are getting longer. Watch video below.

BTW, our local professional football squad won its league championship this past Sunday. This Friday, my understanding is there will be a parade in Philadelphia to celebrate the win. Deb and I are considering going. I think we should be able to find some space near the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps to watch the festivities.

Hey Gang,

Deb and I made the trek to South Philly this morning to go to mass at St. Paul’s. No better place to be than a church in South Philly today.☺️

OK, I’ve got a pot of seafood gumbo simmering away and some Philly-themed apps.

Deb and I geeked out in the dessert department this year. Deb made a wonderful king cake. The cheesecake is what it is but at least we dyed it the right way.

But check out the ultimate geek treat. Bald eagle treats. It’s a marshmallow rolled in coconut and place upon a green and black oreo. Yes, we have gone over the edge.

Let’s face it, most of us on this page are birds fans. Everyone sit back and enjoy.

Hey Gang,

Deb has said to me for years that we needed to travel without the destination being on an ocean and fishing. Whelp, it has finally happened. Greetings from Southern Arizona. First time I have been more than 100 miles from a body of salt water in about 25 years. I’m a little discombobulated.

A post and an email for our subscribers will go out next weekend. I’ll highlight what is coming up for 2025.

One thing I love about striper fishing in the ocean is it can humble you quick. Turns out there might be a good bite in South Jersey after all.

So I’m going to recommend some more captains I have known for several years. (Heck, Capt. Sid and Capt. Tyler still come up in my phone as Mates 😂) or worked with, or cooperated with or I just generally respect.

Hey Gang,
We are calling it a year. My knee is a little wonky and I want to rest and rehab it.

My decision is made easier by what I saw today when we ran the boat home. South of Barnegate Light was a desert. As we passed AC I heard some guys talking about catching a few fish. After trolling for 6 hours. And they were over the line. Trolling 4 pounds mojos. 🤨

It looks like another year where South Jersey will be by-passed.

But I could be wrong. There might be a shot of blitzes.

So I recommend looking to our buddies for a striper or tog trip. Both are very good at both.

Hey Gang,
Maybe you noticed I photo-bombed my page today. 😎

Had the awesome Nick H. And his crew out today.

Finally, the bite broke wide-open on bunker. Gannets. Whales. Crazy blitzes.

28 fish landed, all on jigs, swim shad, spoons, and top-water.

At one point we had 4 fish hooked up at once. Try being the mate and captain managing that scenario.
“You! Reel slower! This fish over here is closer - we need to net this one first. 🤪

We finally got to a point where were top-water only just to have fun. Just flipping them in the boat to get the hook out quickly without any complications.

Nothing especially large, but had our limit, several “overs” and one bonus.
