Trimper Graves in Sharptown, MD

FRIDAYS IN THE GRAVEYARD - The Trimper Graves - Sharptown, MD It’s Fridays in the graveyard. I love a graveyard, don’t you? In Episode 13 of Fridays in the Graveyard, Mindie Burgoyne talks about the tomb of Granville and Joanne Trimper buried side by side at the Riverton Methodist Church graveyard in Sharptown, Maryland. Granville Trimper was from the third generation of Trimper who established Trimper Rides and Amusements in Ocean City, Maryland. He met Joann Morgan in Sharptown when he was delivering a carnival ride for lease at the Sharptown Fireman’s Carnival. They fell in love and got married. They moved to Ocean City and both actively worked in the Trimper Amusement business. Joanne especially loved the antique carousel and even had a favorite horse. When she passed away at age 62, Granville brought her back to Sharptown for burial and had an image of the carousel etched on the face of the tomb. He was buried beside her when he passed. FRIDAYS IN THE GRAVEYARD - Grave of Zippy Lewis- Bayard, Delaware

It’s Fridays in the graveyard. I love a graveyard, don’t you? In Episode 12 of Fridays in the Graveyard, Mindie Burgoyne talks about the tomb of Zipporah Lewis - also known as “Zippy” Lewis. We are at Mount Zion Cemetery in Bayard, Delaware Zippy Lewis lived in the nineteenth century - born in the early 1800s and died at about 73 years of age. Her husband was lost at sea and being left with 5 children, she made a living by coming the beach near Fenwick Island for junk and debris that washed up from old shipwrecks off the coast. After her death, Zippy was seen still combing the beach - or looking out for her husband and son who were both lost at sea many years apart. The light keepers at the Fenwick Lighthouse (has since been moved from its original location) were the first to report seeing her. But people also reported seeing Zippy Lewis poling her boat of junk across Assawoman Bay long after her death. She is buried in an unmarked grave at Mount Zion where several of her children - including son, Jonathan B. Lewis Jr. and daughters, Mary and Gincy. They say that if you’re coming the beach near Fenwick and you find a gold or silver coin …. Zippy left that for you. #FridaysintheGraveyard #ChesapeakeGhosts
