Are you looking for a unique and impactful way to protect sea turtles? Consider sponsoring a Lights Out or Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rehabilitation and Rescue nest! Lights Out Sponsorships go directly to the purchase of wildlife safe light bulbs, light fixtures, streetlights and the electric bill to pay for the new streetlights. KBSTRR sponsorships are donated to the sea turtle hospital.

By partnering with the OIBSTPO, you will have the opportunity to help save an endangered species and show your support for our cause.
Go to our website or email us to learn about sponsorships still available on OIB. Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a positive impact for endangered sea turtles.

Nest 31 was verified this morning. Congratulations to intern Ella- she located the first eggs in this nest! Kim, Ella, Kat, Sharon, Kevin and Dan braved the storm to verify nest 31 this morning!

This Week at Ocean Isle Beach!

06/23/2024

Artificial lights along coastlines can have a significant impact on sea turtles and their nesting habits. Sea turtles are known to rely on natural light cues to navigate their way to the ocean after hatching, and bright artificial lights can disorient them, leading them in the wrong direction or causing them to become exhausted and vulnerable to predators.

Additionally, artificial lights near nesting beaches can deter female sea turtles from coming ashore to lay their eggs, as they prefer dark, quiet beaches for nesting. This can result in a decrease in nesting activity and a decline in sea turtle populations.

To help protect sea turtles from the negative effects of artificial lights on Ocean Isle Beach, we are raising funds to replace 20 streetlights and to pay for the increased cost of operating wildlife friendly streetlights.

Your generous support would greatly help us give endangered sea turtles more tomorrows. Any amount you are able to give would be greatly appreciated and will make a real impact. Thank you for considering our request for a donation. OIBSTPO PO Box 6524 Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469
