Málaga is a port city on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol, known for its high-rise hotels and resorts jutting up from yellow-sand beaches. Looming over that modern skyline are the city’s 2 massive hilltop citadels, the Alcazaba and ruined Gibralfaro, remnants of Moorish rule. The city's soaring Renaissance cathedral is nicknamed La Manquita ("one-armed lady") because one of its towers was curiously left unbuilt. We were able to add to our travel mug collection and take a tour all around the city.

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and headland, on Spain's south coast. It’s dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, a 426m-high limestone ridge. First settled by the Moors in the Middle Ages and later ruled by Spain, the outpost was ceded in perpetuity to the British in 1713. Layers of fortifications include the remains of a 14th-century Moorish Castle and the 18th century Great Siege Tunnels, which were expanded in WWII.
When in Gibraltar some must see and do activities are visit to Europa Point, St. Michael’s Cave, ride the cable car to the top of the rock, walk the old city and see the monkeys. The Barbary macaque (Macaca Sylvanus) is the only wild monkey in Europe, and Gibraltar is home to a population of around 300 of these tailless monkeys.
We did all of this and had a lunch of fish & chips on top of the rock!
With National Day coming up soon commemorating the vote in the 1960s by the citizens of Gibraltar to remain with the British, the city was decorated for the event. The story has it that the vote was 99% in favor and the 44 people who voted not to stay with the UK had their bags packed for them and were sent off to Spain. However, we cannot vouch for the authenticity of that story. 😀 It was another great day.

We spent the day and walked over seven miles in the old city of Cadiz, Spain. We were also treated to a Flamenco Dance presentation. Flamenco dancing originated here in the Cadiz/Seville region of Spain. Cádiz is an ancient port city in the Andalucia region of southwestern Spain. In fact, Christopher Columbus left from Cadiz on his 2nd and 3rd voyages to America. The home of the Spanish Navy, the port boomed in the 16th-century as a base for exploration and trade. There is also a US Navy Base here. It has more than 100 watchtowers, including the iconic Torre Tavira, which was traditionally used for spotting ships. On the waterfront is the domed, 18th-century Cádiz Cathedral, featuring baroque and neoclassical elements.

Day 3 in Lisbon.
The views are stunning. Lisbon is Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. From imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays 5 centuries of decorative ceramic tiles. Just outside Lisbon is a string of Atlantic beaches, from Cascais to Estoril.
There is so much history here and the city is beautiful. Specifically, maritime history such as the voyages of Ferdinand Magellan, Vasco de Gama, Henry theNavigator and more. All set sail from Lisbon.
Two other events that shaped the Lisbon of today were the Crusades and the earthquake.
The Moors invaded from northern Africa and occupied Portugal for 500 years before being expelled. The Romans occupied Portugal for 200 years well before the Moors. There’s a lot of history related to these time periods.
The great Lisbon earthquake occurred in 1855 and much of what we know about earthquakes was discovered by studying this quake. The earthquake was massive and was followed by a giant tsunami and fires that destroyed the city. Some of the biggest monuments in the city are to Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, the Marquis of Pombal, the man who was responsible for rebuilding the city after the earthquake.
When in Lisbon you must try a Bifana sandwich and have Pasteis de Belem which is a custard filled pastry. The recipe for the pastry has been a secret since 1837 and while you can buy pastries in other restaurants around the city, none compare to the one from the original restaurant in the Belem section of the city.
Finally, be sure to ride one of the historic funiculars they have around the city and take the Santa Justa Lift. The Lift has a stunning observation deck at the top and offers magnificent views over Baixa. Since it was opened to the public, it has become one of the most popular viewpoints in Lisbon. Curiously, this lift can carry 20 people upwards, but can only take 15 people down.

We had a fun day in Soulac-sur-Mer. Commonly known as Soulac, is a community in the department of Gironde, administrative region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. It's an Atlantic seaside resort on the Côte d'Argent, on the peninsula of Médoc in the Bordeaux region. It was a gorgeous day in a quaint village on the west coast of France. We went to the beach, shopped and stopped for a croissant and drinks after exploring the town.

We spent the day in Pauillac, France. We docked in the Medoc Province in the Bordeaux Region of France.
Our group was able to get a private tour of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse. The history of Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse dates back to the middle of the 18th century when Arnaud Ducasse bought a small house next to the Gironde river. He obtained the land from Jacques de Segur. Segur is one of the famous names in the early days of Bordeaux, as they owned much of the land that is devoted to the top chateaux in the Medoc.
That purchase by the river is important because it eventually became the location of the chateau. In fact, Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse has a unique distinction of being one of the few Bordeaux chateaux that are not located in their vineyards. The chateau, built in the 18th century is located close to the Gironde river.
After 10 years of reflection to develop the Renaissance project, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse finally opens its doors to the public this month and our group was one of the first to tour the facility.
Each space has been meticulously designed to immerse you in the centuries-long history of the Ducasse estate, of Pauillac, and of Bordeaux and its wines.

We spent the last few days in Amsterdam and Rotterdam! The weather was perfect. We stayed at the Anatara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, in the heart of the city on Dam Square across from the Royal Palace. It was a great location. Amsterdam in the summer time is fabulous! We enjoyed the city sights and a sunset canal cruise. It was a wonderful trip to Holland.

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Victoria, capital of British Columbia, sits on the craggy southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland, it’s known for outdoor activities. The city's British colonial past shows in its Victorian architecture, including stately Craigdarroch Castle mansion. Butchart Gardens, with 55 acres of vivid floral displays, plus statuary, water features and a carousel, is one of many formal gardens in the city.

Ketchikan, Alaska
Today we visited Ketchikan. We went to the Lumberjack Show, USA vs Canada.
Ketchikan is an Alaskan city facing the Inside Passage, a popular cruise route along the state's southeastern coast. It's known for its many Native American totem poles, on display throughout town. It is known as Alaska’s first city and the Salmon Capital of the World. The city features snowcapped mountains, waterfalls and salmon spawning streams. It's also home to rich wildlife including black bears, wolves and bald eagles.

Tracy Arm Fjord & Sawyer Glacier
One of the best reasons to cruise on a Carnival 🛳️ Cruise Line to Alaska is they visit Tracy Arm Fjord & Sawyer Glacier. What makes it so special is that Carnival Cruise Line offers an excursion on a day at sea!!!! They open up the hatch and you board a small boat to get right beside the waterfalls & glacier!!!! It was a red letter day!!!! We saw bears, seals and the Sawyer Glacier calving!!!!! The captain went iceberg fishing and brought an iceberg onboard that was chipped into chunks to use in our drinks!!!!!! Tracy Arm is named after the Secretary of the Navy Benjamin Franklin Tracy.
John Muir called Tracy Arm Fjord 'one of the most dramatically stunning fjords of Southeast Alaska'.
We then returned back to the ship where we were showered with gifts from Carnival !!!!!! What a surprise & treat!!!!!

Skagway, Alaska
Skagway is a compact city in southeast Alaska, set along the popular cruise route the Inside Passage. It's home to gold-rush-era buildings, now preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad runs vintage locomotives past the famously steep Chilkoot trail and offers sweeping mountain views during its climb toward Canada.
It is one of our favorite stops in Alaska.

Juneau, Alaska
Alaska’s state capital is also one of its most beautiful cities and one of the most visited communities in the state. With so much to see and do, there’s certain to be something for you in Juneau.
Downtown Juneau sits snugly between Mount Juneau, Mount Roberts, and Gastineau Channel, and is a maze of narrow streets running past a mix of new structures, old storefronts, and quaint houses featuring early 19th-century architecture from the town’s gold-mining days. The waterfront bustles with cruise ships, fishing boats, and floatplanes zipping in and out. With no road access to Juneau, it is the only state capital in the United States that can only be reached by airplane or boat.
Today we hiked to Mendenhall Glacier & Nugget Falls followed by a yummy salmon bake at Gold Creek.

Costa Maya, Mexico
Costa Maya is famous for being a less developed alternative to the Riviera Maya, farther up the coast in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
