Lots of activities happening this week during the Oceanside Samoan Cultural Celebration, culminating in a festival on Saturday, July 8 at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheater starting at noon that will feature dance performances, live music, booths, and delicious cuisine!

Surf Camp is back! 🏄

Oceanside’s famous Surf Camp teaches surfing and a variety of
surf related activities to campers. Activities include
beginning to advanced surf instruction, beach games and
lessons on ocean safety. First time applicants MUST pass a swim
test. The swim test for Surf Camp consists of 100 yards crawl
stroke and 5 minutes treading water. The swim test for the
Jr. Camp will consist of 15 yards crawl stroke and 15 yards
backstroke. Swim tests are available by
appointment. Please call the William A. Wagner Aquatic Center at
(760) 435-5370 to schedule your child’s swim test. If
you have taken swim lessons with us before please email your last learn to swim certificate to [email protected].

Easter Bunny time!! 🐣🐰👒💝

The annual City of Oceanside Spring Egg Hunt will be held at Mance Buchanon Park, located at 425 College Blvd, on Saturday, April 8th. Entertainment begins at 8:45am, and the hunt will begin promptly at 10:00am. 🐣 Join us after the hunt for a performance from a local musician.

This event is free for children ages 3-11. Families are encouraged to come early.

There will be lots of candy, prizes, entertainment, and of course, an opportunity to take photos with the Bunny! Bring your own egg basket or bag.

Free parking is available at Mance Buchanon Park. Carpooling or alternate modes of transport are encouraged to ensure enough parking at the park.

Celebrating Women's History Month! Anita Cruz Romero, far right, was one of the first property owners in the Eastside Neighborhood, (San Diego Street, Lemon, Higgins, Puls, Santa Barbara Streets and more) and was very likely the first woman to purchase her own lots there. Anita came to the United States from Mexico in 1910 with her son Ralph. As a widow, she made her living as a housekeeper and to supplement her income she sold home-made soup. According to Eastside resident Aurora Soto Badillo, Mrs. Romero placed her soup in a pot placed on top of a little red wagon and walked throughout the barrio, shouting "Posole, posole!" Many then referred to the neighborhood as "Posole", meant then as a familiar and affectionate term. 'sHistoryMonth
