I turned 75 last night. In the middle of 10 ft high sawgrass & cattails while helping Yerrid with his personal best alligator. Gable made an impossible throw with the harpoon through an impenetrable wall of vegetation.

It was dang sure nip & tuck for an hour. Hands & knees on the bow deck of my airboat handlining the beast a few inches at a time. We won, gator lost in the end.

So, it's into June and - low & behold - the giant tarpon are still THICK in Boca Grande Pass.

Here's a fine example that genetically superior giant female tarpon are available for catch and release.

This one measured 74" to the fork with a 43" girth. Julie Henning hooked it, fought it and caught it -- all on her own efforts.

First dawn of my 2024 season, guiding in the Pass of Giant Tarpon. Many boats tight to Silver Kings and Queens. Three generations of McCranies onboard.

70 year old Mike is the first to feel the power of a Giant Queen - she flew, she sounded, she fought - twenty five minutes to the bow of my West End 25, and she was off to the races again. This time she crossed paths with another fish being fought with braid line and she chaffed her tether through. Free to reproduce, free t swim away - Free Again ..
