As a small business owner, this is a big deal to me.

I started Red Tail Travel a little over a year ago and, yesterday, my trademark was registered!

I was a paralegal in the Intellectual Property division at McAfee & Taft before I went into travel.

So,

when I needed help registering my trademark, I called the best IP attorney I know:

Cliff Dougherty

He and his paralegal, Jessica Fuzzell, are the best in the biz and I’m so grateful for their help and guidance.

Seeing this registration certificate yesterday put a huge smile on my face.

It’s official!

Starting my own company has been one of the most challenging and fun things I’ve ever done. I love seeing my hard work directly affect my business’s success.

It’s a lot of pressure…and stress…and long nights.

But — today — this piece of paper reminded me that it’s all worth it, and I’m so excited to keep growing my business.

I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so these words don’t come easy to me…

But,

I’m proud of myself today.

I used to think my dad was a spy.

Some of my friends still think he is one.

I remember a picture of my dad in Paris. His hand tucked beneath a long black coat, his gait long and determined, eyes focused ahead on a target, almost like he was about to pull out a…

No.

He couldn’t be.

He traveled almost every month. Or at least it seemed like he did when I was 10 years old.

He took me to work several times. Everything was ordinary (but of course it would be if you were a… spy!)

He was a buyer of minerals and traveled all. the. time.

He’d bring me back souvenirs. A teacup from Greece, a nesting doll from Russia.

Then one day, a teacher asked, “Is your dad a spy?”

Haha, no!

But I’ll tell you what he did do —

he inspired me to travel.

He and my mom.

I remember my first international flight; I was only seven. I flew from Dallas Ft. Worth to Charles de Gaulle. I told my classmates I had the best Christmas present ever - a trip to France!

Ever since I was little, I obsessed with travel.

Under a blanket, my flashlight shown on pictures of untouched tribes and glaciers in nat geo magazines. My email was [email protected].

Maybe my dad wasn’t a spy.

But I know whatever he did, it inspired me to build my entire career around travel and for that,

I’m incredibly grateful.

I have a ritual every New Year’s Eve.

It’s my first New Years as a Mom, and I decided to break it.

This year is just different.

What I’d normally do is look back on the past year and write down everything that happened.

• big milestones
• the travels
• good memories
• accomplishments

Then, I write down all my goals for the next year. Personal, relational, professional.

I started doing this when I was 10 years old.

Looking back I realize I didn’t do this so that I could remember the good times. I did this so that I could prove to myself that it was a good year.

That I had done “enough”.

That I hadn’t wasted any time.

I’ve always been afraid of wasting my time. I’m not talking about efficiency. I mean I’m literally scared of dying without having done everything I’ve always wanted to do.

I’m scared my life will be boring.

So,

I kept track.

This year, I’m done with the lists.

I’m not afraid anymore. I have a child.

And my life will never be boring with her in it.

What a relief! To let go of my lists, my rituals, my constant need for validating the worth of my own life.

The thing I’ve realized is that trips across the world and professional accomplishments are exciting… but the “boring” moments, my daughter smiling up at me, my husband and I having our morning coffee together, cooking together…

𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 is what I want to remember.

This year I won’t live in the past, or in the future.

I’ll live right where I am, and find the beauty in these simple moments

My top travel tips for 2024:

🧳 If possible, only use a carry on. Don’t risk losing/damaging checked bags! Pack lots of neutrals so you can easily mix and match outfits during the trip.

✈️ Always fly non-stop if possible. The extra cost is worth it.

✔️ Get pre-check - it makes the day of traveling much less stressful.

📍 Don’t overpack your itinerary! Always leave room in the day for last minute activities or time to relax and go back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner.

🏃 If traveling internationally, stay awake and do some light exercise as soon as you arrive at the hotel. This helps combat jet lag.

And a bonus tip: if you can, always get a private airport transfer. If you don’t have a travel advisor, the hotel concierge can arrange a transfer for you. ✨

When it comes to traveling are you....

a 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝗺 🏖️ , a 𝘀𝗸𝗶 𝗯𝘂𝗺 ⛷️, or a 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗺 🤠 ?

My Holiday Guide for Every Type of Traveler:

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝘂𝗺:
Head to The Bahamas! With highs averaging 77°F and plenty of direct flights, it’s a dreamy, last-minute escape. Check into the Rosewood Baha Mar in Nassau, for exclusive beach access and a world-class spa. You’ll quickly forget the stress of shopping lists and snow boots.

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝗶 𝗕𝘂𝗺:
Park City, Utah, is where the slopes meet holiday magic. Picture-perfect powder and a picture-perfect ski town. Stay at The Goldener Hirsch, Auberge Resorts Collection—just steps from the Deer Valley slopes, complete with a heated outdoor pool and Bavarian treats like schnitzel and fondue. Après-ski perfection!

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗺:
Dreaming of a cozy Christmas in the English countryside? The Cotswolds are calling…thatched cottages, chic inns, and roaring fires. Stay at The Lygon Arms, where you’ll find a centuries-old charm, locally sourced lamb and beef, and all the tweed your heart desires. It’s no wonder The Holiday was filmed in The Cotswolds!

You’d be surprised how many people want to get away for the holidays, and spend Xmas exploring one, or many of the above.

So, what’s your Christmas personality?

Tell me in the comments!

There’s actually 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 to see at the Tower of Pisa...

Sorry to disappoint you, but-

it’s underwhelming.

Have you ever been so excited to see something everyone’s been raving about and then, once you see it, you think… “𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵?”

Exactly.

If you want to make the most of your vacation time, avoid these three overrated sights and check out my alternatives.

𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲 – not only is this essentially just a shed in the middle of the street, its not even the real Checkpoint Charlie from the Cold War. Instead, visit the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery in Friedrichshain.

𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗶𝘀𝗮 – Besides the tower, the cathedral and the baptistry, there’s not much to see in Pisa. You can see all you need to see in an hour or two. Instead, visit The Garisenda Tower in Bologna, only 30 minutes from Florence by train. This city is filled with amazing restaurants, medieval architecture, churches, art and more.

Last, and possibly least,

𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻 - its overcrowded, overpriced, and is less authentic than other local Irish pubs. You’ve got to check out O’Donoghues instead. It’s got live Irish music, and is where the Dubliners would come and play for free.

So, there you have it—an alternative list (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘥...). I get it, though—where the crowd goes often feels like the place to be.

But as someone who works in travel—and travels a lot myself—here’s the truth:

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AT THESE POPULAR EUROPEAN SIGHTS

perhaps not what you want to hear, but I don’t like to sugarcoat. It’s my duty to curate trips for my clients that are 𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, and often times...

the popular tourist spots just suck.

What looks like Germany, tastes like France, and feels like Venice?

Strasbourg! ✨

This city’s shifting borders have created a perfect blend of French and German culture. Often called the “Venice of France,” its filled with scenic canals that weave through the city.

📍When to Visit:
The best time to visit is from May to October, when the city is busy with outdoor cafés and local markets. If you’re there from late November to December, be sure to visit the famous Christmas markets, especially the Christkindelsmärik, one of the oldest in Europe, dating back to 1570. While you can see the main sites in a few days, Strasbourg definitely deserves more than just a day trip!

📍What to Do:
Explore the charming streets of La Petite France, visit the Strasbourg Cathedral, and take a boat ride along the Rhine. Don’t miss a wine-tasting tour at a family-run Alsatian winery just outside the city, where you can enjoy personalized tastings that show off local wine-making traditions.

📍Where to Stay:
For a charming and luxurious stay, I recommend the Hotel & Spa Régent Petite France. It’s located in the heart of La Petite France and is set in a 17th-century building that was once an ice factory, with great views of the canals and picturesque houses right outside your window.

What to add Strasbourg to your itinerary? Send me a DM to start planning!

Not every trip needs a travel advisor…

When I landed my first job, I didn’t need an accountant to file my taxes. A simple W-2, no assets, and no dependents – TurboTax worked just fine.

But as life gets more complex, so do the details, and now I rely on an expert to navigate it all.

The same goes for travel. As your trips evolve—whether it’s exploring new destinations, investing $30,000 in a family vacation, or seeking out unique, local experiences—it’s no longer about just checking off the sightseeing list.

You’re investing in more than just a getaway, and you need someone who understands the nuances of luxury travel.

If you’re serious about making your next vacation unforgettable, Red Tail Travel is here to handle the details.

My clients recently celebrated their anniversary with a stunning Alaskan cruise and here’s what they had to say about their experience:

“The planning process with Red Tail Travel was exceptional. All of the air transportation, lodging, the cruise, and selected cruise packages were outstanding. The train excursion at Skagway was awesome. Seeing a baby Orca surfing below our balcony on our ship’s wake was an incredible moment in time that we will never forget. It was a great trip that we will never forget.”

Working with them to craft this perfect getaway was a joy, and their excitement about the trip makes me love my job even more. Here’s to many more amazing adventures! 🐋🏔️

And just like that… August has flown by! It’s been a whirlwind, not just with the new baby, but with some incredible trips on the horizon for my clients…

We’ve just finalized a 70th birthday celebration in the Cayman Islands for a wonderful couple, where they’ll relax on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. It’s the perfect “do-nothing vacation”—one of my favorites!

Meanwhile, four friends are gearing up for a luxurious Mediterranean cruise to celebrate their retirement. Starting in Monaco and ending in Trieste, they’ll explore Greece, Croatia, Italy, and more. Honestly, if I were retiring, this would be my dream send-off!

And I’m thrilled for a family of four heading on a two-week adventure through Italy, from Venice to Sorrento. I can’t wait for them to experience the magic of the Blue Grotto in Capri!

Behind the scenes, I’m putting the finishing touches on proposals for a birthday celebration in the Moselle Valley and a honeymoon in Cabo.

Yes, my working hours might look a little different these days, but Red Tail Travel is busier than ever—and I couldn’t be more excited to bring these dream vacations to life.

What is a Jubilee year and how will it affect clients traveling to Italy in 2025? Here’s what you need to know:

Next year is a Jubilee year in Rome, a rare and deeply significant event that promises a truly unique travel experience. It is traditionally celebrated every 25 years and, in the context of the Catholic Church, is a special year of remission of sins.

As millions of pilgrims flock to the Eternal City, you’ll have the chance to witness historic religious ceremonies, special events, and a spiritual energy that fills the air.

But with this excitement comes some challenges—crowded streets, longer lines at key sites, and a need to plan early.

Key areas to keep in mind:

📍Vatican City: The heart of the Jubilee celebrations. Expect large crowds around St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican Museums.

📍The Four Major Basilicas: These sacred sites, including St. Peter’s, St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the Walls, and Santa Maria Maggiore, will be focal points for pilgrims, with special masses and ceremonies.

📍Historic Center: Popular attractions like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon may see increased foot traffic as visitors explore the city’s rich history.

📍Public Transport & Accommodations: With a significant influx of visitors, transportation might be busier, and hotels are likely to fill up quickly. Early booking is essential!

June is almost over, and what a month it’s been…

I’ve been busy planning amazing trips to Germany, Italy, France, California, and Quebec City 🌍

Right now, I’m crafting two exciting itineraries: a fantastic 40th birthday celebration in Amsterdam and Germany, and a memorable family vacation to Italy.

I’m thrilled for my clients heading to Alaska for their 45th wedding anniversary and those soon to be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in Austria. I can’t wait to see their photos and hear all about their adventures! ✨
