Joey season
We're starting to feel the seasons change here at Bonorong! With the approaching Spring, "joey season" is also starting to ramp up for our wildlife care teams. 🍼
Many of our native critters experience a spike in breeding in late winter and early spring, meaning there are a lot of mothers with dependent young around at this time of year. Every year around Spring, Bonorong's 24/7 Wildlife Rescue Service experiences an increase in calls for injured and orphaned joeys of all shapes and sizes. 😢
Most commonly, their mothers are killed by cars, but many also fall victim to feral or domestic animal attacks, other human impacts or diseases. Without caring individuals in the community who stop to pick up these babies, they would suffer indefinitely. Raising an orphaned joey of any species is incredibly demanding. It requires time, money, commitment and an incredible amount of passion and care. The extraordinary dedication of wildlife rehabilitators around the state cannot be understated. Without them, these babies wouldn't get a second chance at life. 💚
This joey season, please be extra careful on our roads and remember that adult wildlife may have dependent young either in their pouch or somewhere nearby. If you find injured or orphaned wildlife anywhere in Tasmania, please call the 24/7 Bonorong Wildlife Rescue Service any time of the day or night 0447 264 625 ☎️

Several family members and I enjoyed a fantastic breakfast at Off the Rail during my recent stay in Elkhart Lake for my niece's wedding. By the way, she was absolutely stunning, and I couldn't be happier with the young man, Josh, who has now joined our extended family. This cozy, train-themed café is open for both breakfast and lunch, and we couldn't resist sampling a variety of their mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches.
