“Did you see the ⭐️stars?” Said a teenager guy tonight to another guy. He said” yes, they are so beautiful and I forgot what they look like!”

It has been a busy week preparing for 122 youth coming from Rochester mn for the next 3 days at camp. We welcomed them with chocolate chip cookies tonight and will served them French toast in the morning. Yummy ! 😋

The things I hope never to take for granted, to never forget those twinkling lights above my head that God created and always finding 5 minutes to stare at them.
They remind to me that even though they are so spectacular in the creation story that Jesus loves us more!

So go outside and look out above your head and know that you are more beautiful than those stars ! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
Shine His Light to all in dark spots in others lives, you never know who might say” I forgot what it looks like to be seen”

What a whirl wind, 2 thanksgiving WorkCrews in November and we just finished our 1st Christmas WorkCrew with the 2nd one this weekend.

I should tell you that these weekends have around 25-47 youth attending!

I love these weekends when the youth we mentor feel like at home, they come find me, say hello and want a hug ♥️

Mentoring means it’s just not a one time meet and greet.

We make the best Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for them, the one at camp could be the only one they might have in a safe environment.

The kids decorate the lower levels of the cabins, walk our woods, find a tree and decorate it. Exchange gifts and decorate stockings.

What is a WorkCrew at Timber Bay?
These are youth we mentor that come to camp to learn how to work.

1. They learn how to be safe as they work
2. How to tackle it the work assignment
3. How to work as a team through the good and the bad
4. Gather tools and put them away
5. Learn leadership skills

Once our WorkCrew kids put their rookie hours in they become a Veteran.
They earn a hard hat and get stickers for excelling in leadership!

I love watching how relationships grow by working together.

They just love THEIR camp and the place they call THEIR HOME as they help care for it.

Enjoy the pictures of some of hardest working youth who just want to be seen and feel productive.

What’s thanksgiving without the turkey?

That is actually what almost happened last weekend at our Thanksgiving WorkCrew. Some people maybe hearing this for the first time, it’s true on Friday night I was going to pull out the turkey and it was no where to be found.

Thank goodness for our wonderful Rep from performance foods, Lenny Juenemann! I can always count on him to make sure the youth we serve have everything they need for food.

Well that turkey arrived before 9am on Saturday and was garnished for the 6pm dinner.

Even if there was no turkey that night those kids around the tables would be joyful and celebrating the success of the work they did around the place they love, Timber Bay.

Remember Thanksgiving is not about that pretty garnished bird on your table, it’s about the people around it and the memories you share together.

Thank you again Lenny!

A shout out to the Tribal Police for coming out to show off their squad car, talk to the kids and for the goodie bags!
It’s so important for all of us to know that they are the good people keeping us safe.

I did get put in hand cuffs again and thrown into the backseat of that car, where the kids would not let me out. They thought it was 😆 funny.

The lifeguard was locked in there too.

Miss Halo decided that she should try out to be a K9 dog and rode in the first seat.

We at camp are so thankful that you are always driving around checking on things.

Soon at camp our woods will be flooded with this pretty flower here are some reasons just to look at them and not
Here's why:

1. It takes 9 years after germination for a trillium to flower.
2. Each flower yields only ONE seed pod each year.
3. Each plant can live up to 25 years, and gains all of its nourishment for the remainder of the year during the spring when its leaves are present.
4. Trillium are propagated by ANTS. Not bees, the wind, or birds. The seeds are covered by a sweet coating which entices the ants to carry seeds underground into their colonies. After eating the coating, the seed germinates in the perfect subterranean environment.

Every trillium in the forest is essentially a little miracle. 🌱🌸❤
