Airbnb is getting RIDICULOUS with its pricing!! It’s nice that the CEO notices. It use to be a platform for making extra cash by turning an asset you use into something that can work for you. It’s a tricky balance between capitalism/making money and not skyrocketing prices

Searching for places in the $50-70 price range shouldn’t make the total anywhere near double the price. At least allow you to search by total price then Airbnb

If you live in rural areas, or COVID restrictions/financial hardships have you staying at home still then go grocery shopping at ethnic grocery stores to get your travel foodie fix! We found these in Fargo, ND and LOVE THEM!

We buy only 1 of various types of items we’re craving and do a taste test until we find the brand/flavors we miss 🙂 we also try and buy 1 random thing just to give it try. Some duds and some great finds.

We are slowly coming out of our COVID hiatus! So if you’re looking to plan a trip let us know!

If not enjoy some lovely pictures of the OdySea Aquarium in Pheonix, Arizona!

This was a very well done aquarium that ended with a theater view of 3 of their massive tanks wonderfully narrated with funny puns and animal facts! It also house a shark with scoliosis and turtles who lost some appendages battling predators and in need of a forever home! If you want the beat the heat go to the Aquarium. Also plan to stay all day as it is surrounded by restaurants and other educational adventures in the same plaza.

Between COVID 🦠 and becoming new parents 👩‍👩‍👧, this last year of travel has looked way different for us.

Nonetheless, we are still trying to get out there safely and explore. We just take a lot more breaks, end our nights a bit earlier and always have PLENTY of snacks on hand. 🫐🍌🧃

There are pros and cons about attempting to travel during COVID, but research and determine if you can commit to following all the CDC precautions to minimize risk. Places like Kyoto are usually bursting with tourists though there are minimal now there is more construction! Overall we have no regrets when we explored the city!

Our favorite Kyoto sites:

-Kiyomizu-dera 清水寺 temple as close to sunset as possible to enjoy the view
-Fushimi Inari Taisha 伏見稲荷大社 (the iconic Torii gate temple; a hike you the summit only took about 2-3 hrs total at a leisurely pace)
-Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Kimono Forest, Tenryuji Temple, walking along the river, and all the tofu (you can easily spend the day in this part of town so plan accordingly)
-Hanamikoji Street 花見小路 (I prefer seeing it at night for multiple reasons; book reservations for geisha dinners or find an izakaya) or just walk mindfully through all the streets and admire the minimalist and discrete architecture

Stop and meditate at a temple. Listen to the leaves rustle in the bamboo forest when a gust of wind rides in...

Want to walk along side and in a steaming river??? Or bathe in an outdoor natural hot spring (i.e. Onsen)? Put Kusatsu, Japan on your bucket list! It is far removed from any major cities about a 2.5-3 hr drive outside of Tokyo. But, for me, it is well worth the trip.

Sometimes people crave city life but if you’re not that person than this quaint town will leave you wanting to move there :)

The landscape of Japan is so unique because of the tectonic plates. So much to see in this country. Even though COVID has limited our international travel luckily our local travels are still allowed.

For some it is trying all the amazing tofu! If you’re able this is a highly recommended restaurant but go hungry because their set menu is often very large.

Our Japan tour is almost over. We definitely learned that when renting a car (if you’re driving over a few hours) get/rent the ETC card at your car rental company! It’ll save you the hassle of having cash and some rural exits won’t even have a spot for a cash option.

Some ETC cards can be rented for ¥330 one time fee (Orix) and some have daily fees.

Also these small Toyota Yaris was handy to have for the narrow Japan roads. But it had enough room for a large suitcase and 2 small ones in the truck!

Safe travels!

Holy moly Nikkō Tōshō-gū was amazing! The grounds are massive and the intricacies on the primary shrine demand mindfulness. Literally some aspects of the shrine were meant to be imperfect and riddled with various designs and sculptures! You could really stare at some parts for hours.

If you’re planning a visit I’d recommend finding a hotel near the shrine or on Lake Chuzenji.

Safe travels!

Thank you all who have liked the page and kept following over the past 6 months! So sorry for the silence...COVID and our new baby have turned our life around like sooo many others. Stay safe and remember if you are traveling around don’t forget to enjoy what’s in your backyard! I regret not traveling more around CA while I lived there. Enjoy the slow pace! M

Our backyard is in Japan for the next 3 weeks! We have tons of tips and places to visit/recommend here. Let us know what you’d like to hear about.

Here are some pics from Nikko National Park in Japan. It’s about 2.5 hrs outside of Tokyo. Beware there are tons of switch backs going up some parts of the area. As always, safe travels :)

It is a very unique time in the world these days! Travel is not safe to many countries. Economies/certain industries are failing...but if you do have time, you’re following proper news channels, taking the recommended precautions and you decide to take educated risks you can see places you would’ve never dreamed of for cheap. But due to travel restrictions and closed borders, it’ll be those places that you haven’t visited in your own backyard. So if you need a staycation pop on AirBNB, Booking.com and call up some hotels to see if places are willing to negotiate weekly or longer rates! On AirBNB, when you look at a listing scroll till you find the contact us or message the host button. You can do this without putting in a booking request. It’d be nice to telework with a penthouse view or take a dive in an infinity pool on your lunch hour.

Some places will say no but you might just find one willing to give you a deal because some money is better than no money!

Safe travels be it now or in another year from now!! Planning your next trip might give you something to look forward to :)

Idea for the future— don’t have a 5-STAR resort overnight budget?! No problem

Well at least you can enjoy some of the amenities! Some 5-star resorts will allow you to enter their property for their restaurants and bars! We spent $40 on tea and a dessert...It was pricey, but phenomenal view, ambiance and relaxing! They gave us good info about the food and area when we asked. It is fun and interesting to see how some people live...I myself couldn’t stomach paying $600 a night but I can enjoy a meal or a drink.

I was able to see/visit around 6 with no problems at all and even got free parking at all the resorts I visited in Okinawa, Japan! Worth the exploration for a fun way to spend the day :)

Highlights below-
#1- Ritz-Carlton view and drinks at the Lobby Lounge. They have afternoon tea sets for around $39 a person. Haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll definitely go back
#2- Hyatt Pools - 2 infinity pools, 2 hot tubs and gorgeous ocean views. But I’m pretty sure it’s expensive. A great date day/splurge. Their restaurant was good for lunch. Warning— For 3 people it was about $80. You might be able to use the beaches for no charge though.
#3- Busena terrace restaurant was much cheaper for drinks and food but the food wasn’t worth the price. I’d only recommend going for drinks and primarily to enjoy the view and breeze.

If you want more info just comment or send us a message.

Safe travels...if you can. But stay home if not and plan your future adventures!

What else is in your neighborhood that you haven’t seen? A lot more than you realize possibly.

For those living in Okinawa here is another solid half to full day adventure. Visit Tsuken Island (aka Carrot island).

Things to do:
-Carrot lookout/observation deck (10 min from the port)
-Beach (snorkel, tan, collect shells/seaglass, etc; 30 min walk from the port to the west side)
-Take a stroll through the farm land and see what’s in season

Tips:
-bring a picnic/your own food
(There are only 2 small grocery/ convenience stores on the island;
If you’re lucky you can eat soba -only 1-2 food places but they close early 1400 but might be closed during the off season)
- there is a high speed ferry
-cash only at the port for ferry tickets (about ¥1400)

Top 7 recommended to do’s on the Island Rent a car! In the off season it’s only $26 a day

10/31/2019

It’s my favorite time of year to visit Ishigaki Island! It’s a small island south of Okinawa, Japan. It’s their off season so flights, car rental and hotels/AirBNBs are usually much cheaper this time of year. It is colder but if you’re not a scuba diver this is the time to go! You can see monkeys, make pottery, taste/eat delicious pineapple and more! I’ve got another recommendation video of top 10 spots to visit. If you want it let me know!
