When most people outside of Japan think of “sake,” they are referring to rice wine. Actually, ”sake” in Japan is a pretty broad term to describe alcohol. The proper name is Nihonshu!

The Taraibune Boats are charming “tub boats” that were once the go-to for collecting seaweed, shellfish, and more. You can still spot these unique boats, which are expertly crafted from Japanese cedar and bamboo, but only in the remote corners of Sado Island, Japan.

The Aoba Festival in Sendai is happening in mid May 2025! Day one is Yoi Matsuri, with the local "suzume-odori" (Sparrow Dance) – a lively dance full of fan-twirling, jumps, and perfect timing 🐦 After dancing, explore the festival and try mouthwatering festival foods. On day two, it’s all about Hon Matsuri! The grand procession of huge Yamaboko floats takes center stage, steeped in Sendai's history and the legacy of samurai hero Date Masamune. 🏯 Don’t miss the groups of samurai warriors marching between the floats! And top it all off with a Dance Event where you can show off those new moves you picked up!
