We took over the lake house for our own personal use this weekend. 🐣
Prepping for a family reunion here tomorrow.
I am a minimalist when it comes to decorating, so this is as fancy as it’s likely to get!
Excited for some of my kids to arrive today, the next tomorrow and so sad we won’t see the college boy for the first Easter ever!
I’ll drown my sorrows in treats though. We rarely get to indulge because they are always for guests!

Twice this week we’ve gotten last minute bookings from people that wanted a quick getaway for spring break. I can’t blame them! The weather has been perfect. The boats are starting to come out. The wildlife and wild flowers, as well.
I’ve personally needed a reset the last couple of weeks and while I’m here and working, it doesn’t really feel like work. There’s a peacefulness that comes from being on the water that can help you forget the worries, for a time anyway.

Texas + Lake = Bugs. 🐜 🐛 🐞
We exterminate regularly, plus some.
The spider webs and the little, tiny, flying midges may be the death of me.
But occasionally, we get a unique, pretty bug that I don’t actually hate.

That feeling when you were just about to fall asleep and a last minute booking comes in….for tomorrow…when you already had a full day planned that now needs to be rearranged. But, we don’t mind, because we LOVE bookings!

So thankful for my cleaning crew that’s willing to pivot with me and for for being willing to make some special treats last minute and for my kids being willing to rearrange plans!

It’s been a busy weekend over here for bookings! Peak season is fast approaching and our calendar is starting to look really pretty with all the colors!

Say, I love you.

So many women I admire, but here’s to a few of my favorites:

To the daughter that is the entrepreneur, a teacher, a full time mom, wife to a military man who is gone more than he is home. I love bouncing ideas around on how to make our little women run businesses better, but mostly, I love being your mom and your friend.

To the daughter in law who works full time and is a great mom on top of it! Who’s a true friend to my son. Who grants us family time even though I’m sure we can all be a lot!

To the sister who never quits juggling. The ultimate entrepreneur who never gives up on a dream and who is learning to be a mom in her 40’s, because she never quits! No matter how painful, frustrating or hard life can be.

To the friend that always listens. Who sacrifices her own time for a special needs daughter and loves her unconditionally. Who is my eternal shopping and lunch buddy.

To the mom, who even mostly blind, goes with her daughters and great grand children to Disney World because she knows how important time is. Who even at 76 walked all over Disney World without complaining once even though we know she had to be exhausted.

To the woman who carried another life for 9 months just to give that life to someone unable to do it herself.

To the friend that will always feel like a sister.

To the moms, the friends, the business women, the teachers, the singers, the hairdressers, the cat owners…I admire you all and love you even more. I am so grateful to do life with you.

So nice to come home from traveling and know everything with both of our guests went smooth. Huge thanks to my team and to my daughter (who got a crash course of STR management), for making sure everything was taken care of! Also helps when we have great guests!

Look who’s two! Crew Man keeps us on our toes. He’s busy and he loves balls and tells us about balls all day long. And is usually carrying at least two balls wherever he goes.
He came into this world one day before his dad got home from his military training which means I got to be there with his mom when he was born. He still doesn’t wait on anyone and we are all on Crew time!

I love the beauty in storms. I love the excuse it gives you to stay home , when possible, and either decompress or get caught up on projects. I love the sounds and smell of a good rain storm. I love how a stormy day can be immediately followed by a really beautiful, sunny day as if the world was just given a good wash.

It’s been cold…it’s about to be rainy.
January always screams “You need SOMETHING to look forward to!”

So that’s just what we did all weekend. We planned all our travel for the year…small trips, family trips, and bigger trips. It feels so good to see some fun things on the calendar.

It is not too early to start booking spring break and summer vacation!

My business goal this year was to get on top of my social media. I have courses to take, content to create…and here we are mid-January and I haven’t done any of it.
But I have had a ton of family time. College Boy has been home and leaves tomorrow 😭. The Dallas Crew were all in at the beginning of the month. And we’ve spent the last four days helping the Montana Crew move back to WHERE THEY BELONG!
It’s been three long days of driving. We finally hit Texas last night and finish the last 8 hours of driving today 🎉.
Our Ellie girl has insisted on a sleepover with us in our hotel the last two nights. And specifically, Mama Stacy in her same bed. One of us sleeps better than the other. 😴 Probably because of all the calisthenics she performs in the night.

But ultimately, I’m starting this year exactly like I want to. Business goals will come. For now, I’ll rejoice in precious family time.

TMI, but I’ll share anyway because it’s IMPORTANT!
I’ve been up since 4 am doing my colonoscopy prep and haven’t eaten anything substantial in 24 hours, with several more ours to go. While unpleasant to think about and even more unpleasant to participate in, I keep reminding myself that colon cancer would suck way worse. I’ve had one cancer run and am not looking for another!

I’m in need of a positive distraction, so looking back on our first year seemed like a good way to spend the next little while.

We had 23 five star reviews for our very first year and nothing less than 5 stars!
I’ve included some of my favorites.

On repeat was cleanliness, location, comfort and well stocked supply.

Happiest of birthdays to our favorite middle child!
He can tease, poke, and prod like a pro but is also my most tender hearted. He wants to be happy and wants the people around him to be happy all the time.
He’s never crossed paths with a dog without greeting it and telling the dog it is liked. Our neighborhood is filled with overly confident dogs.
He knows all the random facts that you never thought you wanted to know, but actually, maybe you do.
Podcasts are a whole new level with this guy. Did you know you can go see some podcasts live? And there are people in this world that actually plan vacations around where their favorite podcaster will be broadcasting live? Now you do. And you now know his greatest dream.
He’s our nature lover that somehow triggered bird loving. Along with all the random facts he knows, he also knows all the birds in wide world.
Ford provides the entertainment value to everything.
But of all the things I love about him, I love most watching him be a husband and a dad. I love hearing all the compliments he gives his wife. Each little project she does, he’s telling her she did a great job with actual sincere enthusiasm and he’s always telling her how pretty and smart she is.
He’s the most attentive, hands on dad. He’s always wanted to be a SAHD and luckily married someone who wanted that for him as well. I love watching him fill all the roles that traditionally have been done by women. He’s proof that stereotypes are meant to be stretched, crossed and disbanded.

It’s a gorgeous day here and we are prepping for our New Years guests!
I would have thought it too cold for boating, but hey! To each their own. Brave, tough little souls.
Glad to see the lake is used year round!

The wild life is loving the weather on the other hand. Saw a couple of deer this morning, this little Orange-crowned Warbler (who was just hanging on the porch and not worried about me at all) and finally, (we think) a Great Blue Heron. He was being a little snobby and kept his back to me.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about birds. I can identify a crow and a duck, but that’s probably as confident as I get.
But lucky for me, I have a son who is a bird lover.
And that’s one sentence I never thought I’d say. 😉 Goes to show that you just never know what your kids will grow up to be!

For years my kids worked for a special needs camp. The camp evolved into after school programs and weekend babysitting gigs. And then our kid’s friends that also worked at the camp and had weekend babysitting gigs, would also be here with their kids.
When our family is all together, much of our conversation is reminiscing about these kids. We have SO many funny stories.
Just a few favorites:
- The one kid who always perched on my kitchen counter. I called him my gargoyle.
- The time Darby was here prepping for Ellie’s first bday party and had spent forever assembling the fanciest ballon of all time and the minute she was done, one of the boys grabbed it, walked it outside, and let it go!
- Sometimes the entire camp would come to our house to use our pool. One kid was missing and we were all in a panic. Seconds before we started canvassing the neighborhood, the camp director yelled to check all the bathrooms in the house. I sent a 12 year old girl (friend’s daughter) to check my bathroom while we split to the others. This poor little girl walked into a full grown man who had stripped down and started taking a bath in my tub.
- One of my sons also worked at the after school program. He’d pick the kids up from school and then take them to the program. He’d always run them by the house really quick to drop off his school things and grab a bathroom break. For weeks I would come home to find a single egg sitting on my counter. None of us could figure out what was going on and I thought the kids were just messing with me, but they denied it vehemently. We finally caught the boy in action one day. While Ford was taking his quick bathroom break, this boy would grab an egg from the fridge and perch it on the counter.
- The boy that was into Spanish soap operas so therefore we watched spanish soap operas.
- And finally, the boy who loved to vacuum and clean windows singing Karen Carpenter songs.

Seriously, some of the happiest times in our family. We loved our house being so full. When my kids graduated and moved on, I lost a lot more kids than just my own. Reminiscing about these times may be my favorite family time.
