In honor of Black History Month, Guns Down Power Up and the Opelousas Museum and Interpretive Center are hosting a powerful day of peace, creative expression, and community empowerment on Saturday, February 1st from 11 am to 3 pm.

Here’s what’s happening:
• Peace Walk – At 11 am participants will gather at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse with inspiring speeches by city and parish officials and Guns Down Power Up founder Eric Williams. The walk will go from the Courthouse to the Opelousas Museum.
• Museum Activities: Arrive at the Opelousas Museum for refreshments and engaging activities celebrating community and culture. The open mic starts at 1 pm. Step up to the mic and share your poems, stories, or songs honoring Black History Month and community harmony.
• Chess Games: Join Guns Down Power Up for chess- a game of strategy, wisdom, and connection.

This event is free and open to all! Let’s come together to promote peace, fellowship, and creativity while empowering our youth and honoring the legacy of Black History.
