WHAT: The Jamboree Jam — A MAJOR peaceful rally to save our hills

WHEN: Sunday, September 8, 10am to 2pm. (come within that time frame when you can :)

WHERE: Peacefully gather at the four corners of Jamboree Rd and E Chapman Ave, Orange, CA 92869 (parking available in nearby shopping center where you can also purchase snacks and beverages).

WHO: You. Our goal is to have at least 1,180 attendees. Let’s get involved NOW to make this happen.

WHY: Our petition has over 18,220 signatures of residents from Orange and beyond who do NOT want to lose the hills outside Irvine Regional Park to the 1,180 single family homes proposed by The Irvine Company. Our campaign is known as No Orange Heights and we stand firmly against the development of the 400-acre parcel that forms an irreplaceable natural wildlife corridor from the Santa Ana Mountains to Peters Canyon. If this habitat is destroyed, Peters Canyon will become an island devoid of wildlife that travels from Cleveland National Forest.

This impending development is within an already TRAFFIC-CONGESTED, HIGH-FIRE-SEVERITY ZONE and NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURALLY SENSITIVE AREA.

HOW: Numbers count. We need all of you at this demonstration, at least 1,180. Please show up and bring family members, friends, neighbors, strangers on the street! We need to show The Irvine Company and the City of Orange we do not want this to happen. Now is the 11th hour.

Wear green-colored shirts, bring signs saying No Orange Heights or another version thereof, such as No More Habitat Loss, Save Our Hills, Let Nature Live, Put Nature First, etc.

Costumes are welcome. Dress as one of the many special animals that use and inhabit these hills: mountain lion, bobcat, raccoon, skunk, hawk, eagle, bird, coyote, fox, lizard, snake, frog, bee, spider or any wild animal or insect you love.

WHAT TO BRING:

Big Signs with Big Letters
Wear a hat or bring an umbrella for shade
Bring water (or buy at Albertsons)
Wear sunblock
High energy to let everyone know we are serious about saving these hills
Family members, friends, neighbors, strangers on the street.

We can do it. Let’s show them now. They did it for Laguna Canyon in 1989 with nearly 8,000 people marching four miles up Laguna Canyon Road. We can do it for Orange and our beloved regional parks.

Short Film Premiere: Irreplaceable by Paul Sargeant WATCH HERE: https://youtu.be/H4oC-uE_RAk?si=WxO_BHvfLSgepPD5

We have an opportunity to preserve a 400-acre wildlife corridor between Irvine Regional Park and Peters Canyon Regional Park.

Please sign our No Orange Heights petition to help stop The Irvine Company from developing 1180 expensive single family homes in a vital biological link within a Very High Fire Severity Zone between two beloved parks. https://chng.it/cwY6VHfvLy

Please consider writing a letter to the City of Orange and The Irvine Company requesting a new environmental review, since this project is obsolete and will impact residents and park users and create more problems for the city.

Memorial for Uno: OC's Most Famous Mountain Lion

Join B&B Music Studio and No Orange Heights in celebrating the life and mourning the untimely death of Uno, Orange County's mountain lion celebrity. The evening will include a land acknowledgement, guest speakers, and live music. For the community, there will opportunities to process our grief by bringing music or spoken word for the open mic, participating in a jam session, and contributing to collective art dedicated to Uno. More details to come!

On January 18, Uno (F312) was struck by a vehicle while she was crossing Santiago Canyon Road during rush hour. She was able to limp off the road and into the bushes but she later succumbed to her injuries. Uno was pregnant as well, but the kittens were not fully developed and were not able to be saved. This is the reality that these animals face here in Orange County: surviving amongst never-ending human sprawl. The population of mountain lions in Orange County is shrinking and the loss of a breeding female is exceptionally devastating. Our local mountain lion population cannot bear any further loss of habitat or extra vehicles to dodge on the road. Please help us stand up to further development along Santiago Canyon Road by

Trees, Birds, & Historic Figures Walk

MUST RSVP: EMAIL [email protected] with # in party to confirm participation.

Fairhaven's resident naturalist & historian Emily Alvarez and Barefoot Joel will lead a tour through our beautiful park and together we will attempt to identify several of our 75 different species of trees, hundreds of species of birds and other wildlife that call Fairhaven Memorial Park, home. Along the way, we'll find famous memorials, including Leo Fender and Corrie ten Boom, and learn about influential historical figures buried in the park since it was established by Oliver Halsell in 1911. This is a slow, easy walk on soft, slightly uneven grass, but please wear comfortable shoes that you would not mind getting wet. This monthly series usually happens on the 2nd Saturday of every month.

No Orange Heights Sunset Hike and Gentle Yoga at Irvine Regional Park

MUST SECURE RSVP: EMAIL [email protected] with # in party to confirm participation.

Let's spend some time in moving meditation, finding connection with ourselves and with the land. We will take an easygoing, short uphill hike to a lookout spot where Heather will lead us in a thirty minute gentle yoga practice before returning the way we came.

Please bring a yoga mat if you can, as well as a large picnic/beach-type blanket to place under the mat for extra comfort. Don't have a mat? Let Heather know when you RSVP and we will figure it out!

We will include time to observe, appreciate and identify plants and wildlife. Wander through native perennial grassland (Nassella, Calochortus, etc.), sage scrub and oak woodland supporting sensitive wildlife species, including mountain lions, bobcats, mule deer, long-tailed weasels, coastal California gnatcatchers, white-tailed kites, greater roadrunners, western meadowlarks, native bees, butterflies, bats and more! 1-2 miles round-trip. Few hundred feet of elevation gain. Mostly full sun exposure with some shade. Uneven terrain. Dirt trail with some old pavement in sections. Not recommended for those with medical or mobility issues. MEET AT PARKING AREA 13 (N). $5 ENTRANCE FEE.
