Travel tip. Before traveling internationally make a photo copy of your passport and have a photo of your passport on the phone. Store your passport in your hotel room safe. Keep a photo copy on you when leaving the hotel.

A little self promotion here. I had a client who had a cruise out of Rome cancelled 3 days before it was supposed to depart. So I scrambled to piece together a last minute 10-day itinerary to Italy and Greece. She sent me this email when she returned home.

I’m experiencing first hand the pain of traveling the past week. Last weekend my flight was cancelled. My flight today was cancelled. Thank goodness I know how to quickly book a back up flight. Still, no fun, stressful and a lot of added expenses. But it is what it is. The airlines will be hearing from me once the dust settles (Ice melts or Boeing pulls its head out.)

Travel tip: Discount airfare websites do not sell flights at a price lower than the airlines direct, ever, meaning they are not truly discount at all. In fact, all they do is monitor and search airfares for you, and then add a small booking fee. So actually, you pay a few dollars more when booking through these websites. Often, the prices displayed are not truly available. And should your flight be cancelled or you need to make a change, good luck. Airfare is only discounted when a vendor, such as Delta Vacations, Funjet, or Apple, has charter flights or bulk contracts with the airlines, which they only sell with bundled flight/car or flight/hotel packages. When traveling internationally, these bundled packages are always going to be your lowest price. There’s no additional charge to have a travel agent help you book these. If all you need are flights, it’s ok to use the websites to search airfare, but always, always book direct with the airlines. ✈️ ✈️
