Wild irises! Spring always reminds me of the line from Robert L Moore's book, The Archetype of Initiation, "If you cannot surrender, you cannot die, and if you cannot die, you cannot get reborn".

All the new life on display during spring is evidence that something died to make way for it. We're now in the Lenten season when we're challenged to contemplate the finite nature of our existence, as well as those ways of being in the world that keep us from becoming the person we're called to be. What part of you are you willing to release in order to fully bloom?

First poppies of 2024! As much as I love poppies, seeing them on the 29th of January brought up a lyric from a Tom Waits song, Putnam County. Specifically, "mixed feelings over mixed drinks." Mixed feelings indeed. The climate that brings us poppies in January brings us wildfires in July. 😐

Riding season appears to have begun in earnest. Lots of bikes on the road today as we came up past Berryessa, across to Pope Valley, over Howell Mountain, Napa, Alexander, and Anderson Valleys, then up to Comptche, ending in Mendocino. A very good day.

End of the trip report, and yes, I timed out again. Oh well, I covered the main points which essentially boil down to; get out there, wear yourself out, and take chances with the people you meet. That's where the connections happen. Serendipity and synchronicity will rise up to meet you.

Enjoying Highway 99 in British Columbia. I must have turned off the camera by accident. D'Oh! Oh well. Spectacular road, though after Whistler the traffic made it less fun, but the scenery remained spectacular. Truly alpine type scenery, and even a few true hairpins! It kind of reminds me of the Route du Napoleon in France. Oh, and the bugs were fierce where I was stopped.

What one tool can you employ to get the greatest benefit from your pilgrimage experience? A journal. Simple, humble, mundane even. Using a journal in your planning to write down your thoughts and hopes and even your fears can make the whole experience more powerful. Then keep using that journal throughout your pilgrimage. Write down what happens, who you meet, how you feel, whatever comes to mind.
