Wow!! What a fantastic day!
The ship was sailing in Endicott Arm heading towards Dawes Glacier. At around ⏰️ 6:45 am, the cruise director made an announcement that we had reached as far as we could go into Endicott Arm because there was so much ice. 🧊 The captain would turn the ship 360 degrees in ten minutes to give everyone a chance to see Dawes Glacier (from a distance). ❄️
⏰️ At 7am, it was time to meet in Music Hall for our Glacier Explorer Excursion ⛴️. There were about 200 people on this excursion. Once everyone was checked in, the Quantum of the Seas staff escorted us to exit the ship onto the St Nicholas smaller vessel. We waved goodbye 👋 to Quantum of the Seas, who would continue onto ➡️ Juneau.
We (Guests onboard St Nicholas) headed the opposite way towards Dawes Glacier. ⬅️ Our boat maneuvered through the ice filled water, passing unbelievable views of mountains, cascades (not waterfalls), and icebergs. Many times, Christopher and I said that it feels like we were in a different world. 🌎 There were 3 levels of this vessel - the main cabin area, upper deck with outside viewing deck, and a third level observation deck. We arrived at Dawes Glacier 🧊 and were on the third deck. As soon as we arrived, we experienced ice calving, where a piece of the glacier falls off into the water and sounds like thunder. 💨 It's SO cool. This would happen at least 4 more times while we were there. We marveled at the sights and the lovely blue color of the glacier 🩵 and surrounding ice. Everyone was in awe. It was spectacular. We spent about 45 minutes at the face of the Glacier. As we started to sail away from the Glacier, we headed back inside to warm up. There was INCLUDED coffee, delicious hot cocoa ☕️ , and donuts.
We were then on our way to Juneau to meet our ship. We arrived in Juneau at 1pm and, along the way, saw sea lions, more incredible icebergs, mountains, cascades, and waterfalls. Christopher also tried peppered smoked salmon jerky and the Glacerita, which was made with real glacier ice that the crew had retrieved from the water.
We had to board the Quantum of the Seas from the St Nicholas. 🛳
