From the bottom of my heart ... Thank you, Orlando! This city, and a lot of folks from beyond, has supported me so much in my BBQ venture over the last 9 years. It's truly humbling. Thanksgiving is special to me. It's my favorite holiday, but tomorrow marks 11 years since my father passed. He was the driving force behind my cooking & everything that came with it - rubs, sauces, competing, catering & opening a retail store. Today, I hope everyone enjoys their turkeys that I smoked. Enjoy your day & the people you surround yourself with.

Happy Thursday, y'all! Couple of things ... Hopefully this time next week you'll be doing some serious couch time after mauling one of our smoked turkeys (only a few left!) More importantly, after much research, I split your generous donations for my trip to Burnsville, NC between 2 wonderful groups - Bald Creek Relief & Rebuilding Hollers - Come Hell or High Waters. Both organizations are non-profit and working tirelessly to rebuild Yancey County. I am looking forward to going back after the new year and helping in any capacity that I can. I appreciate everyone's support!

I'll be hosting a hands-on class with my friends Edible Education Experience on Thursday December 5th. This class will concentrate on live fire cooking and seasoning - we'll build both together, while creating a delicious meal focusing on a couple of proteins & locally sourced vegetables. Been waiting for this to go public. I love it when a well executed plan comes together & dreams are forged. Proud of my guy Craig Tabor ... Save me a platter on Opening Night, brother! 🤙

Sometimes you unexpectedly have some of the best food of your life. This was the case a few months ago over Father’s Day when Alison ordered BBQ from Craig Tabor. Not only was his meat among the best I’ve ever had, his sides were the best I’ve ever had. Craig has also written two cookbooks, which I thought was incredible.

Fast forward a few months later, Roland and I were trying to figure out how to work with him, when Gus from Big Burritos Mexican Grill also joined the fold. So…….With that being said, we are all super thrilled to announce we are opening Craigs version of BBQ in the last space on Main Street together.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to have such great partners! Roland and I, are super excited to work with Craig & Gus. Their food, and character is top notch.
We sincerely hope you will join us in welcoming them to Main Street!

OK y'all, Thanksgiving is officially 1 month out! I updated the ordering process on the website ... it's much easier! All birds are 14-16 lbs., smoked fresh on Thanksgiving morning and will be ready for pickup at noon. $95 each. Gobble gobble! 🦃

Update from our trip to Burnsville, NC:

Simply said, this may have been the greatest experience of my life. I traveled to my home state on Monday to help feed as many people as possible for a couple of days. From 11am - 3pm on Tuesday we had a solid line of 30+ people. We smoked 32 pork butts and served 700+ pulled pork sandwiches and several hundred bowls of Brunswick Stew. Wednesday was a repeat with smoked chicken and chili.

This region, this town and this community have been completely devastated. Through everything that has been lost and taken from them, it was the greatest show of love, hope, compassion and friendliness I've ever encountered. Everyone was thankful and appreciative. We shared stories, gave hugs and shed a tear or two. This community will come back stronger.

I have a lot of people to thank for this opportunity. Together, we have raised $7300 to date. Never did I think we'd have such an outpouring of support. Thank you to my friend Chris Saccone for volunteering to go with me and tirelessly helping. Thank you to Mark at MW Studios for allowing us to use your parking lot to help feed this community. Thank you to James & Amanda at The NuWray Hotel for your accommodations on Wednesday night. Thank you to Kyle and Kim and Courtney and Amy and the Burnsville Hub and everyone else for helping spread the word and believing in us to pull off this mission.

PSA: I've always considered North Carolina my home. I was born there, helped smoke my first whole hog, graduated college & got married there. Amy & I own a tiny piece of God's country in Burnsville, one of the cities completely devastated by Hurricane Helene. We hope to retire there one day. I feel compelled to help in any way possible, so next week I'm dragging my 500 gallon pit, Lulu, up there to sling as many hot meals & BBQ as I can. I rarely ask for help, but today I am. Donations to help offset some food costs would be greatly appreciated. Any & all financial donations will go to buy food, provisions & make contributions to Yancey County.
