Never, ever pay your travel agent.
An advisor's job is to find you travel deals, apply big discounts, and expand your horizons to show what your budget is actually capable of!
In a world where anyone can book their entire vacation using their smart phone, it would seem to some that having a travel agent would be losing control of your ability to customize or getting yourself in a sales trap, but a true travel agent shouldn't need to compete with your smart phone, with AI, or with a third-party booking site.
The brands you reserve with-- Disneyland/Disney World, Royal Caribbean, Sandals, Princess Cruises, Rail Europe, Universal Parks and Resorts, Celebrity Cruiseline-- these all, including private luxury services, all reach out to your travel agent first with their best available deals, and usually only advertise a quarter of their offerings to the consumer themselves.
Do wealthy people have extravagant vacations because they have money to throw around, or is it because they have access to an agent who knows how to get them more for less? I would have at one time in my life said the former, but surprisingly, I have found that the case is more often the latter.
Never, ever pay your travel agent
but if you don't have one
you will lose money
time
peace of mind
and travel opportunities that you can absolutely afford that you wouldn't discover by yourself.
