Fall is the perfect time of year for paddling with beautiful scenery, less people, and less wind. Below are a few tips to keep in mind for a safe and enjoyable fall paddling trip.

1. Check the forecast to make sure there is no wind or rain in the forecast as Fall weather can change quickly.

2.Dress in layers with the top layer being wind and water proof, and all layers being made of quick dry materials, as mornings can be cool with warmer afternoons.

3. Plan to paddle earlier in the day and if you think you may paddle into the evening, bring a head or deck light, as the days are getting shorter—it was getting dark at 5:15 yesterday.

4. Bring a friend or go in a group and let someone who is not on the trip know your itinerary and when you expect to be back.

5. Bring enough food and water

6. Don’t forget your sun protection. Even though the temps can be cooler, the sun will still be out.

7. Paddle a route that matches your ability level

8. Don‘t forget your PDF—aka lifejacket

If you have any other tips we may have missed, we’d love for you to share them!

Tuesday’s Full Moon Paddle was (in my opinion) the best of the season. We got to witness a brilliant sunset and the supermoon (although obscured by scattered clouds) was a spectacle to behold. You could really feel that the seasons are changing under the Harvest Moon. There is one more opportunity this season to get out on one of these paddles on October 17th. The Feather River Center

The FRC, operating the Forebay Aquatic Center, is a nonprofit organization located in northern California. We exist as a collaborative effort with the Table Mountain Rowing Club, Butte Sailing Club, CSU Chico Rowing Club, and California Department of Parks & Recreation and its Division of Boating & Waterways.

We are currently working with DWR and State Parks and the Supplemental Benefits Fund to begin development on more recreational and educational offerings for YOU and to contribute to economic development and tourism, especially in Oroville. We are an integral part of the Feather River Conceptual Plan, developed as part of the Oroville Dam relicensing project and designed to guide development under the aegis of DWR, FERC, and the City of Oroville.

How can you help? Go to our webpage, www.featherrivercenter.org, and DONATE! We are a 501c3 non-profit and every penny helps us deliver programs to children, adults, and families, businesses and schools. Check out the map of our plans on our website. Or contact Tony at for a personal contact.
