Another great activity in the area and perfect time to visit the gorge. If you haven’t ventured to the Wander North Georgia Clayton store or their newest location at the gorge, you’re missing out. Truly a great local business full of unique gifts and all your mountain needs.

We're about two weeks out from the Tallulah Gorge Whitewater release on March 25th and 26th! This will be the first release of the year, and a great weekend to visit the gorge. If you haven't visited during a release before, this is a great chance to come out and watch kayakers from across the southeast challenge these class IV-V rapids!

Do you know the stories behind the names of each of the cabins? On the spot where Cherry Bluff sits now, there was a giant cherry tree that Dad placed the cabin right under. For many years, the tree was beautiful until it became diseased and had to be removed. Since we couldn't 'bear' to completely part with the tree, the stump remains with a bear statue to greet you upon arrival. While he's not as grand as the cherry tree, we hope the bear makes you smile!

I will admit I hadn’t seen this post Dad wrote on 2013. Life has a way of making you not stop and appreciate the mundane and the day to day when you are neck deep in life. I hadn’t seen it….That is, until today, when the daughter of this man commented and tagged me.

It is our second Father’s Day without Dad. In a way, it feels harder this year than last year. Perhaps because the reality of change has sunk in, but the memories are stronger than ever.

Turnstone Cabins were built to be a place for families, including our own, to make memories. We’re not a corporation. We aren’t a company looking for investment returns. We are a family, holding on to a legacy that our Dad and Mom built over 20 years ago with their bare hands. We continue to operate as a way to stay connected to Dad…and as a way for new and old families to create new memories and relive old ones.

Cathy, thank you so very much for the message. I hope that we can get you sitting on the porch of Sassafras Rock soon. I know when I’m missing my Dad, sitting on one of those porches can be the best medicine for the soul.

Happy Fathers Day to all of the Dads out there. You are so very loved.

Good morning ... Sometimes things make you stop and think.

This past weekend we had an elderly gentleman book a cabin with us, by himself. I rode by early one morning on the golf cart and he flagged me down and wanted to talk to me. He was seated comfortably in an oak rocking chair with a cup of coffee in his hand and began telling me this story.

"My wife and I were the second people who ever stayed in this cabin 15 years ago. There were only these two cabins then ... there was no rail fence ... not a lot of trees here in the yard. Things have really changed in 15 years. I looked back through the 5 journals, you have in this cabin, and found where my wife and I wrote how much we enjoyed our stay here 15 years ago. Today would have been our 50th wedding anniversary and I wanted to do something special to commemorate the occasion. Now it's just me sitting here on the same porch, looking out at the beauty we enjoyed ... it's a bitter sweet time ... but I am enjoying it again after 15 years. I just wanted you to know a little of my story and that I was here when this was all just built. May God continue to bless this place and all that visit this little cabin."

I left him sitting there by himself and thought ... wow ... 15 years ago I was still working full time ... we had only 2 grandchildren and Emily was only 3 yrs old. Now she's in college and we have 6 grand children. Sometimes a short conversation with an older fellow can make you stop and realize that time waits on no one ... make the best of the time you have because this day will never return.

Just a reminder...It's not 100 degrees on Betty Creek...oh, and the water temperature is always ice cold. Imagine, you could be sitting by the creek with your feet in that cold water right now!! Sounds a lot better than sitting in the oven like the rest of Georgia, doesn't it??

Snow day take 2! Today was snow most of the day, with no accumulation. Truly, the best possible snow storm 😂 The creek behind Cherry Bluff and Chinkapen Gap is loving the extra precipitation! Don’t worry, it will be 70 degrees in two days!!

Happy Monday! We look this picture last summer of Sassafras Rock. As much as we love Fall and Winter, we can’t wait for the green to fill in and those perfect afternoons for front porch sitting ❤️❤️

Can you guess why Dad named this one Sassafras Rock? That giant rock in the front made the perfect setting for the cabin. Add a couple of sassafras trees on the land, and he came up with Sassafras Rock 🥰

Probably one of the most fun things we tell guests they must do when staying with us is visit Andy’s. Not only is it a fun experience for everyone, it is run by a family we have been blessed to call friends for over 20 years. On your next visit, make sure to walk over and visit. When people ask how close is the creek, we aren’t kidding when we say right off the back porch! Here’s a quick video walking up onto the porch of Cherry Bluff. Betty Creek is flowing beautifully right now…we think there is no sound more relaxing. Just the perfect spot for a cup of coffee!

That's a wrap for our 2021 season! A huge thank you to old friends who visited us again this year, and new friends who chose Turnstone as their vacation spot. As winter approaches, it's time to get the cabins ready for the cold and tuck them in to rest (and maybe a little rest for us too!). We plan on reopening in February 2022. Booking calendars remain open for next year! We look forward to seeing everyone in 2022!

Pure Fall perfection. Today’s blue skies and temps in the high 60s made for the perfect Fall day. The leaves are just passing peak, but still showing off their beautiful colors this season. Next week highs are showing mid 40s 🥶 I think we’ll bask in these warm days as much as we can!
