Traveling during the holidays has its challenges, but hosting on isn’t one of them. How do we do it? Using our own experience as travelers to help ANTICIPATE what guests may want and need during their stay. Here’s some of our quick tips:

1. MORE IS BEST - As much as we’d like to control the weather, it definitely has its moments of surprising us. So extras of seasonal items like quilts and blankets are a must to have handy in case the weather changes.

2. DOUBLE CHECK - Every guest should have their own set of utensils, especially for a holiday dinner. So make sure there’s the right amount of essentials needed for the entire stay. Check to make sure there are backup supplies like batteries in stock, and test to make sure things are in working condition, especially items that have been stored away all year like portable heaters.

3. BE READY FOR A FEAST - Guests are bound to gather over a holiday meal, so the kitchen should be stocked with all the cooking, serving, and dining essentials they need.

4. KEEP THEM ENTERTAINED - Having a great time shouldn’t have to depend on leaving the house. Fill the house with ways to entertain the guests like music, tv, games and books. Boredom will surely stay away.

5.QUESTIONS ANSWERED - A thorough Guest Book is a Host’s best friend. Troubleshooting answers, restaurant & sights to see suggestions, and other useful tips are quickly accessible and most often keep the questions at bay.

PERFECTION: The hanging light is a little crooked and the potted plant is missing its cover. I can pinpoint other things that could be adjusted or removed...yet somehow, it’s still pretty cozy, don’t you think? Picture perfect doesn’t mean everything has to be perfectly placed. When it comes to The Beach Lodge, it’s about inciting that sense of nostalgia within you; when a getaway with your family or friends may have included screaming kids or unexpected rain, but you know what — it was “perfect”. It was a time that left you with a feeling of warmth, and it’s what we hope you walk away with when you stay at The Beach Lodge.

Little by little I’m making changes... adding & enhancing its personality; Cuz this isn’t a hotel that stays stagnant — it’s a Lodge that breathes. And this one belongs to a host that loves this house and continues to nurture its growth like she would her own kid. Cuz there’s nothing like being able to proudly say “Yup, that’s my baby!” 😉

JOY. That’s the feeling I wanted to capture in this room. While the house has a cohesive look that flows naturally from room to room, I wanted each bedroom to have its own story to tell — it’s own personality. This room had my daughter in mind. She was our miracle baby, whose skin radiated pure sunshine ✨ and cheeks always so rosy. No black out curtains here — We want you to wake up with the sun giving you morning kisses. We want you to face the day with pure JOY. Did I succeed? Happy 🌞 Day. 😊✌️

A bathroom may not be the room of choice to greet guests into your home, but don’t underestimate its power to set the tone for the rest of your house.

There’s a tranquility that comes with the early hours of the day — the slow-moving marine layer and the moody shades of the teal blue ocean water. It is the type of soothing calmness that we instantly want to provide our guests, so yeah...welcome to our bathroom. ☺️✌️

I’m a big advocate of iPhone photos — never feel the need to apologize posting them. Now granted, this place is blessed with natural light — so it’s basically like having super powers. But TIME has been very limited; and a list of little to-dos quickly monopolizes a big chunk of it. So while I credit myself for being a good at juggler, it was nice to be able to hand off some 📷 duties to . If you’re in the same boat, choose a photographer that understands the vibe of the house; who knows how to capture its true beauty rather than create an illusion. And when time is back on your side, give your iPhone camera a little love; I swear it can give you superhero powers — just look at our squares. 😉✌️

This is how we say “hello” to our incoming guests. Of course with 🌞 and 🌊 breezes, but also with easy touches of sustainability; fresh fruits from local farm stands, vintage finds from local junkers, and handmade items from local makers. Put them all together and it hopefully creates an authentic home that somehow feels immediately familiar, and ready to welcome you in.

I look at this photo and as usual, I’m fixated on the details that aren’t working — that’s why it’s been living in my photo library. But a guest recently told me that she made the beds everyday during her stay, because seeing the room this way made her so happy. This made me laugh — in a good way. The creative in me is perpetually looking to get each room “just right”, so it’s nice when a guest unknowingly reminds me that each phase brings about its own wonders. As said about the creative process, there’s no way to get to that final moment when the work feels done ”...without walking down all the detours and dead ends.” So hope you enjoy my ongoing work-in-progress. 😊✌️
