We built this place to be the perfect vacation getaway for almost any family - with plenty of outdoor exploring space (nature!), plenty of outdoor living space (the deck, firepit & balconies), and plenty of indoor living space (when nature decides you need to be indoors instead). The options & opportunities are endless - so pick your direction, grab a martini and become Otterly Relaxed:

• The Vie

w: the view is spectacular from almost any place in Otterly Relaxed. Whether winter sun, summer sun, stars at night or enjoying the rain from the deck - the view simply cannot be beat. And if you think that's the ocean you hear - it is.

• Fire pit: Smores & more. Our fire pit has enough seating for 10, keeping everybody warm, while also playing a double-role of fully functional marshmallow toaster. And if you need more even more space (family reunions, weddings, neighborhood block parties) – take advantage of our neighborhood fire pit that seats quite a few more!

• 2nd Floor Balcony: For those who won the ro-cham-bo contest (aka Rock Paper Scissors, or Rock, Paper Scissors, Lizard, Spock) for the guest bedroom on the second floor , you will be treated to one of the best views in all of Seabrook - overlooking the forest bluff that separates Seabrook from the Ocean. Enjoy a coffee in the morning, enjoy a drink in the evening, and enjoy the view in between.

• Wraparound Deck: the 8' wraparound deck has everything you could want: No cover (for the sun-lovers), and shelter from the elements as needed. Rain or shine - the deck provides the best place to hang-out and talk about all the kids did down at the beach or enjoy a drink (any will do) with friends & family.

• In-door/out-door two-sided gas fireplace: Whether inside, or outside, you'll have a fireplace to keep you warm and provide an ambiance that can only come from a fireplace.

• Hot Tub Seating 6, the recessed Hot-Tub will soothe the savage beast: either kids who need something to do, or those 40-somethings who tried to keep up with their kids who did something. Because it's recessed, it's super-easy to get in and out of, and has the perfect view of the fireplace. It is very private, yet gives you a spectacular view of the forest - and the stars!

• Media Room: Wii (for 4), Xbox + Kinect, all on a 46" TV - with all the A/V hookups. Send the kids up to play or enjoy watching the latest/greatest movie (which you brought) on the big screen!

• Sleeping Arrangements: Up to 10

◾Master Bedroom (main floor): a King Size Bed!

◾Guest Bedroom: a Queen Size Bed (but remember - you scored with the balcony!)

◾Bunkroom: Sleeps 4: The perfect sleep-over like experience. And the kids actually get the second-best view of Seabrook (behind the balcony)

◾Media Room Sleeper: The sectional in the media room folds out into one of the best sleeper-sofas we've ever encountered (no springs or bar, memory foam mattress, dream-like slumber)

And then of course - there is Seabrook. Put on your flip flops, hiking shoes or wellies, you are only 5 minutes from the beach, 3 minutes from Downtown, 2 minutes from the poolhouse, 1 minute from the mountain trails, and seconds from fun!

As promised - we try to keep posts to a minimum - sharing only good news, and big news (but never "just" the news).

The Cliffs' Notes version of our journey over the past year:

- We were going to sell Otterly Relaxed (actually put it on the market)
- changed our mind and pulled it off the market.
- left Seabrook's Cottage Rentals program and joined AirBnB/VRBO.
- Added our carriage house to the rental.

The last two items we are most excited about.
Leaving the Cottage Rentals program was a journey. But we're happy that we did so. We've got a great housekeeper, a wonderful property manager (who happens to be that same housekeeper). We are able to offer a cleaner, more consistent experience, on our terms. And we really, really enjoy the interactions we have with our guests - something that we couldn't do with Cottage Rentals.

Adding the Carriage House to the rental was a big step - one that was mostly "emotional". We've always kept the carriage house separate - our own private living space & giant owner's closet.

But when we moved to Florida a couple of years ago - we knew that we wouldn't be coming back to Seabrook as often as we'd like.
So, we decided to revamp the space, by adding a trundle day-bed, and a dedicated desk/workspace (which is super-private) since it is up in the carriage house. And, adding the bathroom is key (it's all about the bathrooms! :-)

So - Otterly Relaxed is now part of AirBnB/VRBO, now sleeps 12, and is taking reservations!

We hope to be able to host you (again?) soon!

Own your own slice of heaven on the Washington Coast!

Wow - who can believe it's been 10 years since we opened up Otterly Relaxed at Seabrook. We've thoroughly enjoyed this house and the memories it has created. And we hope that it has created nothing but great memories for many of you as well.
But...our recent move to Florida makes us slightly less geographically desirable to Seabrook than we once were. It's a lot harder to "stop by" whenever we want. So, we've made the extremely difficult decision to put Otterly Relaxed up on the market.

Many of you who have "liked" this page have stayed at Otterly Relaxed. If any of you were saying "honey, you remember how much fun our trip to Seabrook was? I wish we could buy that house we stayed at!" - now is your chance. 🙂

Or, if you know of somebody who said "I remember how much you loved your trip to Seabrook. I wish we could buy a place there!" - please feel free to share this post/link with them.

Well, it's been almost 10 years since we opened up Otterly Relaxed at Seabrook - and we couldn't be any happier with how things have gone. Our customers (you!) have been great! The comments we see in our guest book brings joy to our hearts!

And we've got big news to share! We are EXPANDING! (Good Lord – no, we’re not pregnant! Those days are behind us!)
We stumbled across a gem of a house on the other side of the US - on Isle of Palms in South Carolina (about 20 minutes outside of Charleston).

We’ve named it “Palmetto Porch”.

Unlike Otterly Relaxed where we built the house from the ground up, Palmetto Porch was a bit of a labor of love. After a few months of rehab, and some incredible interior design work by my wife – we opened it up in March, and have seen it booked almost non-stop. And with an average review score of 4.9 – I think we’re on to something… again.
As you can tell from the name, its focal point is a beautiful screened in porch where you can gather with family and friends over good drinks and great food (assuming you don’t go out and enjoy all that the island has to offer – including some fantastic restaurants!)

And, true to form, we can't survive unless we see palm trees swaying in the wind, feel beach sand between our toes, and frolic in the ocean. And being only 300 yards from the beach - Palmetto Porch delivers!

Please do not hesitate to contact us directly if you’d like to pay a visit to IOP. It’s a beautiful island that’s just sleepy enough for it to be quaint and peaceful, yet awake enough to have plenty to do.

Where we’ve been pleased with how guests have reacted to Palmetto Porch – there are still the occasional “open” weekends or weekdays. And thanks to the flexibility of AirBnB and VRBO – we can run last minute, ridiculously priced specials. An empty house is a sad house. And those open weekends or weekdays become your gain!
