After a sudden flash flood, maintaining the canyon becomes an arduous and time-consuming task. The dedication and cooperation of our guides, led by the exceptional canyon supervisor, Staci Walters, play a crucial role in ensuring the canyon's restoration. Their coordinated efforts encompass various activities such as clearing debris, repairing pathways, and ensuring the safety of the area. Despite the challenges, the teamwork and unwavering determination of our guides enable us to effectively restore the canyon to its pristine state after each flood.

Today, we honor Navajo Code Talker Day, a time to celebrate the brave Navajo warriors who played a crucial role in defending our nation during World War II. By creating an unbreakable code using the Navajo language, these heroes ensured victory for our country, our allies, and the world. We are forever grateful for the Navajo Code Talkers—their courage and contributions will never be forgotten. Thank you, Navajo Code Talkers.

The collapse of the Double Arch is a significant event, marking the end of an era for a formation that has captivated visitors for generations. These natural structures, like the Double Arch and the slot canyons of Lower Antelope Canyon, are ongoing records of Earth's geological processes. Formed from the ancient Navajo sandstone, these formations have withstood the test of time, continually shaped by erosion, wind, and water.

The Navajo sandstone itself is a fascinating reminder of Earth's dynamic history. Originating in the late Triassic to early Jurassic periods, around 190 million years ago, it represents ancient desert environments. The erosional forces that carved the Double Arch, Lower Antelope Canyon, and other formations are still at work, demonstrating nature's relentless power to sculpt and reshape the landscape.

This weekend, there may be scattered showers and thunderstorms. If you plan to go hiking or enjoy outdoor activities, please take precautions to stay safe.

Today is just a taste, expect moisture to really increase over the weekend. What does this mean? Well, it means your cold cocktail glass will leave condensation rings on your table, but that's about it. Just kidding! Much more importantly, shower and thunderstorm chances will increase significantly. Temperatures will back off just a bit, bringing sweet relief to some. Chances for localized heavy rain and flooding will be for real, plan accordingly.
