Did anyone know that more heart attacks occur over the holidays than any other time of the year?
Here is the story of Trailbound Hiker, Chris Betz, aka "Mountain Mama".. We are so grateful for this miracle, and that she is with us today!

The winter holidays can turn deadly as research shows that more people die from heart attacks during the last week of December than at any other time of the year.

Trailbound wildwomen covered alot of ground this week. A trip to the Chicago Riverwalk, Cancer Survivor's Garden, Millennium Park, and carolling at the Christmas tree was a hit. We also recommend the new Washington House for lunch with food from around the world.

Today was our end of season "Celebration Hike" through Deer Grove, followed by an amazing Potluck Lunch. Feeling super "Lucky Ducky", as we walked through crunchy leaves, had sunshine on our shoulders, and time to laugh with friends.
Next on the list: A couple of Urban hikes in Chicago, and then onto Winter hikes... stay tuned!

Another new hike for Trailbound at Spring Valley in Schaumburg! We had a great combination of wilderness, native trees with plant markers and experiencing life on a farm during the 1800's with a German immigrant family. Super fun days!

Who knew? Paul Douglas Preserve is more than just the paved bike trail. There are miles of biking and hiking trails immersed in the forest as well! We hiked over 3 miles through much diversity, Oaks, Maples, Black Walnut, Sycamore and the largest Buckthorn any of us had ever seen! Two hours didn’t seem long enough! TBT did it again! Thank you Cairn for your leadership and finding lost keys today! 🥰

We had a supreme trip to Devil's Lake last week. 3 days full of rock scrambling, hiking high above the lake, kayaking, bonfires and laughter. These were truly adventerous and uplifting days for the Trailbound wild women

Today we experienced “Forest Immersion”, a.k.a. “Forest Therapy” at Reed-Turner Preserve. It was a perfect morning…. Wind, yellow, brown and red colors, acorns, the scent of fall in the air, wildflowers and friendship.

Julie, our certified Forest Therapy guide, directed us to focus on the nature that surrounded us. We experienced peace, forest movement, beautiful sights and smells. It was an inspiring morning. Something we should enjoy more of in our busy lives!

What a beautiful day for a fun bike ride at Fort Sheridan! ☀️🚲

We are stronger than we know! (Quoting Cairn ☺️ after a long, gentle? 😁 uphill section.) We rode, we laughed, we talked, and we learned some history about the area. Shared experiences with some amazing women!

We have a new favorite trail, the Jean & John Greene Nature Preserve!! We decided we were "Better together" as we explored the trails with new friends.

1st week of hikes at Jelke Creek Bird Sanctuary! Beautiful rollling hills that were recently restored with native seedlings in 2011. We loved all the goldenrod and the enormous cottonwood. We guessed this granddaddy tree to be nearly 300 years old!

Our last week of Spring hikes at Fox Bluff Conservation Area in Cary. So much fun to explore the ravine together. We pretended to be 10 years old again as we traversed through fallen trees, over logs, and checked out the green frogs. We also enjoyed the Giant Angelica, Dane's Rocket, Spiderwort, and laughing with friends.

What a fun day we had on Illinois Beach State Park. Extra special because Scout joined us before she spends the summer in CO. We loved the calm Lake MI waters, the wildflowers, and found a sleeping fawn, just steps from the trail!
