Fishing has been great so far this season. Spotted sea trout have shown up in good numbers and are cooperating. There are still plenty of redfish around to catch and although there are some dips in temperature, there will be plenty of opportunities to catch fish and enjoy a great day on the water, especially around the holidays while you have guests in town.

Fishing this past week has been on fire! Lots of species to choose from. Redfish are all over the flats, larger trout are starting to show up, and snook are transitioning from the beaches to the backcountry. A couple of miles offshore have had some spanish mackerel and a few kingfish are showing up as well! Hello everyone! I would like to extend a thank you to all those who have been concerned about how we fared through the hurricanes over the last month. Luckily, we only had some tree debris and broken limbs at home. My boat was kept safe at home also, so there wasn’t any damage to the vessel. Many of our friends have had devastating damage and it will be a long time before things are back to normal for many of the coastal homes. Fortunately, damage to the Ozona Fish Camp, my primary departure location, has been repaired so I am in full swing with fishing charters and starting to book a lot of trips for fall, however I still have plenty of availability. Here is what is happening out there...

We are starting to see a good push of redfish in the area. Several reds are being caught along the rocky structures of the beaches, and around any of the usual spots inshore. Their sizes range between 16 inches to 24 inches on average, but we’ve also seen a few upper slot and oversize fish as well.
Snook are biting and should continue through the fall months, even in December, if conditions remain mild. This past summer was unusually slow for snook. The numbers were slightly lower than usual, however, a lot of snook have shown up later in the year, especially in transitional areas on their way to the backcountry for winter.
There are plenty of trout to catch, although mostly on the small size, there are a few big females showing up. With so many trout around we expect to have a phenomenal winter for large trout, which is typical for the St. Joseph Sound area.
On good weather days, I will be scooting a couple of miles offshore to target kingfish, spanish mackerel, and mangrove snapper also. If the conditions are favorable, we can often catch a variety of species, inshore and nearshore alike.
