The Ocotillo Lodge in Palm Springs, California holds significant historical and architectural value within the area. Built in 1957, it was originally designed by William Krisel and Dan Palmer as a mid-century modern resort. The architecture of the Ocotillo Lodge is emblematic of the mid-century modern style, featuring clean lines, simple shapes, and integration with the surrounding landscape.

One notable aspect of the Ocotillo Lodge is its association with the Rat Pack, particularly Frank Sinatra. Sinatra reportedly owned a unit in the resort, adding to its allure and attracting other celebrities of the time. The Ocotillo Lodge became a popular destination for Hollywood stars seeking relaxation and privacy away from the spotlight.

While the Ocotillo Lodge in Palm Springs has been associated with celebrities and the Rat Pack era, including Frank Sinatra, we cannot independently verify whether Sinatra specifically owned a unit in the resort. The association with Sinatra and other celebrities of the time is well-known lore and part of the resort's history, but specific details about ownership may not be extensively documented or easily verifiable through official records. However, the allure of the Ocotillo Lodge to celebrities during the mid-20th century remains part of its legacy and contributes to its historical significance in Palm Springs.

Its mid-century modern charm remains a draw for those interested in experiencing a piece of architectural history while enjoying the desert oasis ambiance of Palm Springs.

If you’re coming to Palm Springs to visit us we recommend you stay with our neighbors, The Andreas Hotel and Spa. You’ll love the Hotel and that you are 2 minutes from our Bar!
Posted • Since 1935, the Andreas Hotel and Spa has been the destination for celebrities escaping Hollywood, world travelers, local guests, and history buffs. This unique boutique hotel opened its doors in the 1930s offering all the amenities and services with air conditioning and a luxurious pool area.

This beautifully appointed suite celebrates The First Ms. Palm Springs, The first Rodeo Queen, and the first locally known “”blonde bombshell”” to accompany Bob Hope on the USO Tours. Van Doren herself provided memorabilia for decorating the balcony suite complete with a romantic fireplace.

Visitors have taken in the lovely architecture, unusual guest rooms with updated and large bathrooms, the inviting pool area, fireplaces in the suites, interesting lobby area, and the ample parking. The upstairs extended patio area has become the “”happening”” place for the perfect intimate wedding.

The fabulous Ocotillo in Palm Springs

A scene like this is not uncommon in !

This is a 1937 LaSalle Sport Coupe. From 1927 to 1940, the LaSalle was Cadillac's beloved junior brand.

Today, many know the LaSalle brand from the theme song of the popular 1970s TV sitcom All in the Family "Those Were the Days"....

"everybody pulled his weight
gee our old LaSalle ran great
those were the days...."

This car is just one in 's extensive collection. We are so pleased to have Chris's residence on the tour this Modernism Week Tuesday, 2/20!

Lakers at !

Posted • Did you know the Lakers held preseason training camp at College of the Desert in the 1980s and in 1991 and 1997? 🏀 Part of the deal with the college was the stipulation that at least one intrasquad scrimmage wold be open to the public. Each time, the bleachers were packed.

The Showtime Lakers are shown here, circa 1980 at the Ocotillo Lodge in the Palm Springs, where they stayed.

From left front: Coach Paul Westhead, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jamaal Wilkes, Jim Chones, Michael Cooper, Brad Holland, assistant coach Pat Riley, and Mark Landsberger. On the diving board: Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Norm Nixon.

This October, the Lakers will make a grand return to Palm Desert for a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns at Acrisure Arena.

"1961 Ford Thunderbird with 'Swing-Away' steering at the Twin Palms neighborhood in Palm Springs, California 🌴🚙🌴" Carlv12 - Photography by Carlos Vargas

A jewel among our desert neighborhoods, Twin Palms Estates, Palm Springs, California truly demonstrates the creative genius of architect William Krisel and the Alexander developers. Each house appears to be custom-built due to the alternating facades and site orientations, with a variety of rooflines. The desert landscaping, an integral feature of the architectural design, complements the innovative architecture.

Experience the ultimate in midcentury curb appeal during the "Twin Palms Estates Exteriors Walking Tour: Krisel with the Alexanders Ushered in a New Design Era" on Oct. 19-22.

Scattered around the Ocotillo Lodge, the Aloe Vera is a succulent plant that doesn't typically produce traditional flowers, but rather inflorescences.

Aloe Vera blooms are usually composed of tall, spike-like clusters of small, yellow or orange flowers that grow from the center of the plant's rosette of fleshy, pointed leaves. The flowering time of Aloe Vera varies depending on the growing conditions, but it often occurs in the late winter or early spring.

To describe the current state of the Aloe Vera bloom, I would need more information about the plant's location and growing conditions. However, assuming that the plant is growing in a suitable environment, I would say that the Aloe Vera is likely to be displaying its typical tall and impressive inflorescence, adding a touch of vibrancy to the succulent garden.

Did You Know?!?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame was originally created as a marketing tactic for a local real estate development. In 1953, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce came up with the idea of creating a "walk of fame" to honor celebrities and draw tourists to the area. The first star was awarded to actress Joanne Woodward in 1960.
Pictured below is Gene Autry’s star. Gene Autry was one of the first celebrities to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame when it was created in 1960. Autry was honored with a star in the category of Radio at 6384 Hollywood Boulevard, which is located near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. His star was unveiled on September 29, 1960, and it remains a popular attraction on the Walk of Fame today. Who is your favorite star? Do they have a star on the walk of fame? If so, have you seen it?
