Palm Springs Windmill Tours - Tour Coordinator

10 to 15 hours per week - $18.00 + tips - Flexibility is a plus.

-Welcome and greet customers with an upbeat personality, when they arrive for their tour at the reception area.

-Provide App instruction download and map. Instructions for App download are provided to customers through confirmation email after booking, but may need troubleshooting when they arrive.

-Comfortable with driving golf cart and touring on historical facts on private windfarm.

-Operator the Fareharbor booking system to check in guests through Manifest - Will Train

-We have a small gift shop area with an iPad on Square for purchases.

-There are 10 stops on the tour. Knowledge of the tour is a must and basic facts and history of our wind farm, about Wind Energy, which we can provide a fact sheet.

-Awareness of customers completing the tour and keeping a watchful eye on the tour route to make sure everyone is safe.

-Fareharbor booking App shows you reservations for the day. Refresh the App to make sure you are aware of the next customer booking.

We have been getting MANY questions about how electricity gets from the wind turbines to homes.

👉First, the electrical journey starts at the generator, runs down the tower to the transformer, and then travels underground at 33000 volts to a wind substation similar to what is on our wind farm.

👉From there, power travels across overhead power lines to the Devers substation (north of Dillion)

👉Other fun facts: Power generated in the San Gorgonio Pass is enough for 250,000 average homes annually. Ten times Palm Springs, three times the Coachella Valley, and a third of Riverside County.

👉Our power is mostly sold to SCE, although the market is created by CAISO, like the commodities or futures markets.
CAISO manages most of the grid in California, which is just one section of the Western Interconnection ("Western Grid").

👉Wind and Solar energy are VARIABLE energy sources. CAISO uses ALL renewable energy and then makes up the demand using DISPATCHABLE sources like Natural gas peaker plants.

👉Not using available renewable power is called curtailment. This can happen if there is too much energy in our area because that leads to other problems.

👉There are FIVE grids total in North America:
-Western
-Eastern
-Texas
-Quebec
-Alaska
