City Ordinances and General Beach Etiquette

We are required by law to follow state and city ordinances. These are enforced by the police and city codes enforcement officials. In addition to the laws, we have also included some general guidelines for beach etiquette.

PROHIBITED ITEMS/ACTIONS ON THE SANDY BEACH

· Glass containers – Ordinance 7-2

· Animals (except service dogs or at designated beaches) – Ordinance 7-9

· Possession of a metal (non-toy) shovel – Ordinance 7-10

· Digging a hole deeper than 2 feet – Ordinance 7-10

· Lighting disruptive to marine turtles – Ordinance 7-112

· Driving on the beach (with the exception of permitted and emergency vehicles) – Ordinance 7-101

· Consumption of alcohol between March 1 and March 31 – Ordinance 3.2.1

· Possession of alcohol without ID – Ordinance 3-2

LEAVE NO TRACE

· May not leave an item of personal property unattended on the sandy beach from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

· May not leave any personal property within a public beach access area at any time

· Unattended items in violation are deemed discarded

TRASH ON THE BEACH – Ordinance 12-7

· Any person/entity owning or controlling property between the Gulf and Erosion Control Line must keep the property free
