Steven Merryday (Chief Judge U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida) has denied placing a temporary restraining order on Florida Executive Order 20-87, which would have immediately lifted the ban on short term vacation rentals pending further litigation. Instead, the judge believes that Governor DeSantis has right to sufficient notice and to be heard before a decision is made. We hope to know the time and date of the hearing soon.

Meanwhile, support for overturning the STR ban is gathering steam. Lead attorney Patrick LeDuc is gaining the support of another Florida attorney, who is joining the case today. A separate Florida law firm has requested to file a friend-of-the-court brief in support of the case against the STR ban.

Update on beach closings: PCB City council decided to close the beach for another two weeks until April 23rd. They will revisit closing or re-opening at that time. The mayor is urging them to reopen just for walking and swimming only. It would potentially be a gradual reopening where there would be no sitting nor laying on the beach. I guess we’ll have to wait another two weeks before we will see for sure what will happen. It appears that the governor has not renewed his executive order to keep the short term rentals closed.
We will keep you informed as we learn more info!

Our units in Tropic Winds are located approximately 2 miles west of Pier Park and are still close to the shopping and restaurants but our complex is less dense and somewhat smaller and you have much more beach area than areas closer to Pier Park and areas further east.
