We are saddened to report that this year's Thunder Beach Rally has started with two tragic fatalities. This is a stark reminder of the dangers associated with drinking and riding.

Our department has a zero-tolerance policy for drinking and riding. We are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone and will enforce the law to protect our community. If you plan to drink, please stay off your motorcycle. The risk is simply too great.

I'm reaching out to everyone involved. Those of you who wear the same patches, those who rode down together, club members, new acquaintances from the bar, and every visitor. We need your help. If you see someone attempting to ride after drinking, step in. Offer them a ride from a sober friend or suggest a taxi, Uber, or Lyft or any of the other multiple alternatives. Your actions could save lives!

We do not want to have to inform any more families of a preventable tragedy. Enjoy your time here, but please do so responsibly.
