"St. Andrew Bay is unique because of its wealth of biological diversity. Keppner (2002) documented the diversity associated with the bay and compared it with surveys of Indian River Lagoon, Fla., which has been touted as the most biologically diverse estuary in North America. His report documents 2,913 species of plants and animals associated with St. Andrew Bay, nearly 400 more species than found in the lagoon."

Sad and sobering.

A heartbreaking video taken in St. Petersburg, Florida, this week appears to show a female dolphin carrying a dead calf on her head, unwilling to let it go.

Never ride in the front of a boat underway.

It’s not worth it.

We wanted to take a moment to drive home guidance to avoid sitting on the bow of a pontoon boat while it's underway.

Sadly yesterday a 22-year old tourist suffered multiple very deep lacerations to her arm after a pontoon boat she was bow riding on, with her feet in the water, hit a wave. The motion pulled her into the water and under the boat, where she was struck by the propeller.

It happened in the intercoastal waterway west of Crab Island.

OCSO Marine units arrived and applied a tourniquet for the severe bleeding, helping with her treatment until Okaloosa Emergency Medical Services - EMS arrived to takeover her care.

The FWC is investigating.

We send our sincere wishes for her recovery from the trauma.
And we want to remind everyone to please use caution on the water.
A fun day of boating can turn tragic very quickly.

Thank you to all the first reponders who rushed to her aid.
